Its a bit like calling a clumsy mate " a bit of a spaz" probably just banter. you wouldn't go up to someone in a wheelchair and shout "spaz" at them though.
like most things there is a context in which words work and don't work.

Pot and Kettle
Lots of sheeps/girlfriends in NZ so that would be alright.
I suppose it all depends on the context. If i called a mate who i have known dfor a while a ****** during a humourous exhange involving him queriing my parentage then no problem
If i drove down Brixton highstreet with a swastika flag held high yelling ******* then i may not get such a warm welcome.
Context and the meaning is all
Personally i would not use it.

im from wales and have heard to term sheep-******* i don't know how many times, if a fellow welshman calls me this then i cannot be offended as he cannot be intending to offend, if an englishman called me this then i would be offended as it then becomes a racist remark intended to offend my nationality, if a black person calls another black person ****** (god i hate that word), then it cannot be intended to offend as the word has a totally different intention, if a white person says it then it cannot be anything other than offensive.
Likewise, if you overhear a private conversation and they say things you don't like, tough. I'm afraid common sense has been taken out of the debate, which is sad, but that's still the criteria I judge things by.

The word I think is a corruption of the word Negro. It obviously has a bad connotation in that it was used as a derogatory way to refer to negros and that sense has remained. I personally would avoid the word unless it was in a joking sense towards a very good friend who understood what I meant by it in case it offended
I don't seem to notice a person's colour any more and am only interested in a person's character rather than what they look like. It is a pity that people's attitudes to others who were different from them in the past was through a mistaken sense of superiority.
I do think however that the PC attitude towards the word ****** and the Golliwog dolls etc. is quite ridiculous and only serves to extend any separatist feelings between races. This is what makes it difficult to use the word as well.

i'm actually astonished at your ignorance!....tanned people ffs!.....where are you from, i'm surprised your hamlet has electricity let alone the internet. the term black people is fine if it is indeed black people you are referring to, or do you mean asians, or do you mean people who have been on holiday and have a suntan

When I came back from holiday someone said "**** me DCI, you look like a n*gg*r!!" and I wasn't offended..... quite proud of the fact I was well tanned
Last edited by DCI Gene Hunt; 17 June 2007 at 06:28 PM. Reason: to remove the word n*gg*r... as some find it offensive

i think it was 2pac that said that the rap artists that say it in there lyrics as ***** not ******, the latter being offensive.
i also saw in a documentary about some rap artist that was 'in tha hood' calling a Hispanic kid a '*****' as they are a repressed race in the USA.
i think white people using the word, either ***** or ****** offensive

Of course it entirely depends on context...
I have a mate who's half-singaporian (or whatever.. ) - he gets grief about mail order brides, and being a gook all the time.. he gives as good as he gets though.
At the end of the day, if you can get so upset about someone calling you a nasty name - well.. your a pathetic, weak excuse for a human being imho. You need to grow a frigging backbone. Sticks and stones, all that.

Was on a course at work not long ago and someone referred to a coloured person ,only to be told that is not the correct, or Ok method of describing a person .It should have been Black person so as not to offend them. When does brown or tanned become black for ffs .
Did not understand that one for sure .
******/***** is not offensive to me ,no more than someone calling me a big fat ginger cnunt.Get over it .
The PC brigade are feckin reckin this world .

Its all tribalism and use of terms to exclude those that are different. The majority of people aren't overtly tribalistic and do not use the 'offending' terms in that context. It's all about the context but who's to say what context someone is using?

Now you just sound confused generally.

The context of "yo, ma ******, hows it hanging" - whilst laughing, and "you f**king ****** I'm going to kill you" whilst brandishing a knife is pretty obvious.
To me anyhow.

i think you should be able to call anyone, anything you want! its freedom of speech!
tell you something, if i called a black person a black b*st**d and he called me a white b*st**d i know who would get in trouble for racism!!!!!!!

I take your point about freedom of speech and the suffocating interference of the PC brigade and Nanny State, however with freedom comes responsibility. I also think the racism card shouldn't be played so quickly and with such vigour by so many people. This does tend to p!ss a lot of people off both black and white.
