I love the 360 but there are serious quality issues. I think all it would take is a disgruntled to release some info regarding failure rates and you could have a mass lawsuit on the hands of MS.

Thats for sure. Holmdahl was very coy about return rates as you'd expect.

"we don't comment on that"

you do if it's not bad which tells you all you need to know.

They were posting out the labels so I called today to arrange for them to be emailed instead. They arrived within an hour or so and UPS are collecting today, good service again so far

Incidentally the original UPS label arrived this lunchtime too, looks like it was delivered by UPS.

Yes thats right. Well I'm on my 4th or 5th since November. If it fails I'll take it back to where I bought it and get a replacement under the consumer goods act as its not of merchantable quality. Has worked every time. If they send you to MS point out your contract is with them not MS and they are bound by law to replace it. Its worked every time for me including the nearly as cruddy PS2.

Considering the number of faults , I actually don't know anyone who's XBox 360 has not failed, I cannot see MS getting away with this for much longer.

This will only be my third since launch day which is less than some, but then I don't use it for prolonged periods or even daily, often just once a week.

Everyone I know who has one has sent it back too, so the return rates must be well over 50% surely, which is completely unacceptable.

Still love it though

Mine came from Gameplay online so either way I'd have to post it back, probably at my cost with them. I have extended warranty so free returns, may as well make use of it.

I find it strange that so many 360's are failing after running Forza 2 !!!!!!!

LOL Jeff

Apart from the occasional lockup (albeit seeming to occur more frequently now) my launch day machine is still going strong. Hasn't had this much of a hammering since TDU came out!

Fecksake

All I seem to hear is how everyone else got their labels in 2 hours.

14 days now. This is ridiculous. If there not here tomorrow I'm gonna want some more compensation.

Mines going back to PC World tomorrow as it crashes say every minute now and my mates has the red rings of death and he's taking his back tomorrow morning too.

Will both be asking for new units under consumer goods act as both are less than 3 months old and clearly of unmerchantable quality. XBox 5 or 6 I'm seriously loosing count. At least this one did better than the last that died after 13 days !

scary post, mine only ever froze once, but it was the XBL mini golf game and i assumed it was just the usual crapcode/pc based machine that caused it.

not sure how old mine is, i think i bought it at the beginning of the year

Just to rub it in, the bloke from DHL comes here every day, so he's going to bring the parcel to work for me instead of to home where it'd get missed. He sees a lot of these, as you can imagine, are reckons its currently about a 5 day turnaround.

14 days is insane, I'd have been on the phone the next day and hourly until the labels arrived to my inbox. Silly question, but have they got your correct details ?

Can you explain more? I was told that these should help not make worse

I have just bought NYKO intercooler from GAME (see http://www.game.co.uk/ViewProduct.as...275&mid=330369)

As per Dunks post. They have killed a number of 360s due to the extra current drain on the power socket. Not a good idea at all.

I used to have one and I kept getting intermittent hard drive failure messages when turning on the console. Got rid of the cooler and the messages all went away. So, it was definitely affecting the current somewhere...

If you must get a cooler, I'd go for one of these instead...

Gameplay » Xbox 360 » Xbox 360 Cooler King - FREE UK Delivery

Does the same job, but adds a load more features, and draws the power from the usb ports instead of directly from the power feed. A lot safer

from their web site

Great thing to have, although if using original HD connectionds that come with console these cannot be connected meaning you have to buy another cabel.

I work for DHL, now you know the reason for my driving style, and pick up a lot of 360's. I ask the customer if they want the machine delivered back to their home address or thier work address, hell if the customer is decent enough i will even take thier mobile number and phone them in the morning to confirm that i have thier machine and that it will be coming back to them

Mine has been fine so far, first Core machine failed after 10 months and the current Premium machine has been good since i bought it last Dec. Mine sits Vertical (next to the PS3), is well ventilated and gets hammered pretty reguler

Article doesnt explain itself fully - that deal was for N. America only - I tried to get that deal but they refused.

Can't beleive how many people just cough up the £90 or whatever it is now - when they said they wanted it out of me I told them I wasnt going to pay it, and I'd rather out £90 towards a Wii - they rang me back 2 days later, offered me the repair for £45 and copy of Viva Pinata as compensation.

The whole argument took a while though - from the RLOD to getting a replacement took almost a month.

found a few posts online that have had people modding the nyko unit to take its power from the usb ports, and leaving the main power supply alone.

are the fans inside the 360 poor or is it just a bad air flow design?

I think it's so cramed full of next-gen goodness it tends to implode occasionally
I'm now running mine vertically, but for the first 14 months it was horizontal.

Both the Xbox my mate and myself got on Friday ( his second and my 6th in 6 months) have crashed, hung or come up with other faults alredy.

Interesting I have noticed the copy of gears of War I bought on 14/2/2007 has worn terribly. The second hand version I got in November is in much better condition. Worrying considring thats nearly all the XBox has been used for and I doubt the disk has been out of the machine more than 15 times.

Great big wear ring right round the disk. The new Xbox tells me I need to insert the disk into an Xbox 360 when I put it in ! Great normally have to reboot it a couple of times.

I think I'm at the stage where I feel some contact with trading standards is due as MS should not be allowed to continue to sell such a crap quality product !
