Speed boats
#31
If the UK had better weather, more sun all year round then I would consider a boat again. I live on the coast, I can see the sea front my bedroom windows, so access to sailing is easy, but the number of times I was out sailing, wasnt as many as you'd thought.
I eventually sold my boat, and was considering buying a wetbike / jet ski, but didnt in the end.
My local river, River Arun, has speed camera's up and down it, and regular speed controls. Its painful leaving the river, into the sea at 10mph, but I can see their point, as if your on the bank, the wash from the boats is awful.
In the end, I do like boats, but pound 4 pound, I spent the ££ on cars as I use them far more. However, if we had the weather like in the US / Spain, then I would get a boat again.

sbk - all good points and we do very much like our current boat (17ft Cornish Crabber "Coble" - very pretty little boat and easy to use) which seems to get approached all the time with nice comments (not unlike having a new Audi TT which gets no comments or a mint Escort mk1 which gets loads of comments despite being a lot slower!).
We do have access/free use of a Boston Whaler Montawk 170 with a 90 at any time but a short drive away (40 mins) and may be able to persuade the owner (wife's grandad) to "leave it" on our mooring for a little while!
Previous experiences of the brand are a 22ft Outrage with two 115 engines (very fast but not the best for skiing) and a seriously fun Sport 15ft with a 60 - dinky boat but SO user friendly and powerful enough for anyone under about 13st to mono behind.
A tricky one - new 17ft Montawk with a 100 is £21k (with a few extras), 15ft Sport with a 60 (and some extras) is £15k - very few available 2nd hand and most are way overpriced.
