anyone come up against focus st?

wrx m8 260bhp, uk model is called turbo 2000 awd, but if you swap ecu from wrx to uk pre96 you have 260bhp in uk model aswell, like i did before selling it and getting a scott t chip fitted in the spare slot in my uk ecu.

Have to say that of all the many cars i have had the Subaru has been the most reliable by far and has taken many many thrashings!!! Had a few Fords and every one has let me down. I doubt that in 12 years time there will be many Focus STs still kicking ***. Engineering is poor on all Fords! Subaru build by far the better car.

No you can't.

UK cars have the smaller TD04 turbo whereas a WRX import (saloon) has the TD05. I'm not even sure you can swap the ecu's over without having some running issues.

Maybe i was being harsh on 12yr old cars but speaking from my own experiance since changing from STI PPP to Audi S3 i no longer pay tracker fees, monthly fuel bill has dropped significantly, insurance has halved and road tax is slightly cheaper.
Point being that everyday running costs of a Subaru are higher in comparison than other marques.
Before anyone says it i know the S3 isn't as quick as the STI but do i care...NO.

how long have you had a subaru m8 because you dont know what you are talking about let me explain....
wrx (thats an import) pre96 mainly has tdo5 (a couple of early variations)
wrx wagon(thats an import) td04 turbo
turbo 2000 awd (thats a uk model) pre96 all have tdo5 as standard
turbo 2000 awd wagon (thats a uk model) pre96 still has td05 turbo
the z4 ecu changes over to the pre 96 uk no problem
try doing a search......

Nik : how quick is the S3 and what's it like to drive ? (Must admit i don't even know if it's 4wd or 2wd).

I'll answer that one from having driven S3s (which are 4wd) Acceleration is about the same as a standard Bug WRX. Chassis feels solid and grippy but not much fun. Of course toys and build quality are a league ahead!

Its totally different to drive than my Impreza.

Had a acceleration 'test' against a newage UK WRX and stuck with it no problem. Handling not as good as Impreza but not to bad for everyday driving. Track day merchants might require suspension mod's though.
Overall though i prefer the better build quality, solid ride and the fact it attracts less attention than the Subaru.

Traction wise it has VAG Haldex 4wd system.

An orange ST had a go the other day, roaring away from the lights... I over took him in the end.

K plate WRX, 0.9bar, 3" turbo to backbox straight thru, K+N panel filter.

Focus ST2 221 BHP, Top Speed 152mph, 0-60 6.6 secs

WRX O5 221 BHP Top Speed 144mph???? (155+mph I've had) 0=60 5.7 secs

Not much in it but the WRX is nearly a whole second quicker at 0-60, so its catch up for the Focus.

But why would anyone buy a 95 WRX when they can afford a ST2

Scott I can vouch for your top speed not quite 155+ but I had a 06 wrx stuck to my **** on a prodrive day my ST2 was std at the time but now Ive got about 285bhp and 320lb ft torque, but I know that there is some fast ST's out there esp WOLF UK who have the WR330 330bhp and around 400lb ft torque and that is quoted at just short of 170mph and about 5.5 to 60

PS the std ST is not that quick until it is on the m/way the in gear times are faster than most other new age super hatches out there.

Hi guys

Interesting thread.

I have an ST3 that has a GGR CAIS and a full Milltek exhaust, it currently runs a map that is not quite suited to the mods but still puts out 295bhp and 358lbft of torque. This will be increasing further in the near future with the addition of a larger intercooler and a full custom mappimg session.

The figures above combined with less transmission losses mean that there are quite a few scoobys out there who thought they were going to as someone put it "F**king Destroy" me. They soon got a big shock.

I'm not saying that it is the fastest car out there, but, with a few minor mods it deserves more credit.

I had a wee run with one, I stayed on his back bumper no problem but there was no way i'd have got past him. I'm running 265bhp in a uk MY00.

True for the traffic light grand prix, but rolling they will be very similar (in fact the Focus may have a slight edge due to lower transmission losses).

Or you could mod your WRX, as I did.

Interesting. Sounds fun ! My Scoob is about the same power, but less torque.

What's GGR CAIS and was the car 221bhp as std ?

Not being funny mate, but how the hell do you get 360ft-lb (soon to be more) through the front wheels..?

One of the lads on here (sc0obyboy-John) has a FRS (think he's now sold it..?) running ~300ft-lb iirc and it was impossible to get the power down below the national speed limit and that's in the dry, if it was wet/damp....???

BTW I quite like the ST (although prefered the look of the RS), but there's loads of them around. I must see at least 2 blue and 1 asbo orange everytime we go to Asda (3x a week- I've got a greedy family..)..!

i like them; subtle (as long as its not in orange), with a decent turn of speed and a great chassis.

GGR CAIS, is a Cold Air Induction System from Graham Goode Racing.

BHP from standard was 225.

With regards to the 358lbft of torque, it isn't delivered in one great lump, combine it with an amazing class leading chasis and it's superb. It pulls very hard from low down the rev range and keeps on going. I have a Dyno graph at home which I'll post up if any of you are genuinely interested.

And no I don't have an ASBO orange, or as I call it RAC orange ST, Mines retro Ford White with Blue side stripes.

i havent come across the st3 yet but i have come across the vxr, the vxr was just going further back but would still have the vxr over the focus anyday plus vx are very good cars and found to be very reliable imo.

I'm interested in the dyno graph. I keep half toying with the idea of STs and VXRs instead of another scoob, seeing what a "little light tuning" could do might help persuade me!

thanks for all the replies, i went and ordered st3 in blue on saturday,7-10 days and ill be in it.
thanks for all the help,i will get a scooby next.
any ideas on the best place to get it remaped?
