For someone who claims not to be a bragger you sure do post an awful lot about how your M3 is better than an Impreza. - Especially for someone who at one point posted about how they weren't going to post anymore because scoobynet was no longer a suitable place to be seen (or heard or read).I may of course have missed but did you ever actually retract that ?

Im sure you believe you're having a great laugh at all of us poor deprived impreza owners - a fair few people on the bbs just seem a bit bored with your postings (with the honourable exception of the Bike show pics which for one of your posts was surprisingly new and inventive).

To continually try comparing your M3 with an the vast majority of imprezas is irrelevant. I seem to remember you believed the P1 was the dogs when you got it. If you couldn't see the difference at the time between Subaru creating a one off special to make the most of the last shape until the new arrival and the M3 then maybe you need to think a little harder about your car choices in the future.

Deano (hope you got the Kylie video working in the end

Edited to say ..

Jonathan - I think I'm write that you had every special edition impreza from the RB5 on - changeing every six months or so ?. Well It would seem to me that if you have to change your car every few months to keep it interesting you're not buying the right car in the first place. Alternatively hire a 1.4 astra for the weekend. Any impreza (even a GL) would seem interesting for another few months after that. It would probably work out cosiderably cheaper in the long run.

Expert what? i not professing to be an expert in anything.

If your posts are in good humour, why do you come across as some1 with a chip bigger than your £5 wad bundle on your shoulder.

And good move from P1 to M3, i suppose after all that whinging you were doing about the depreciation of P1 value you wont complain about resale value of the M3

Sorry to correct you, but its from the Terzo onwards Usually the change is not dissatisfaction with most cars, but boredom/desire. If I didnt buy Autocar and didnt know about all these new cars coming out, I might still have the Terzo, but where is the fun in that. The only car in the past three years Ive been glad to see the back of was the std MY00.

Is the M3 the perfect car. Certainly not, not matter how much Arron enjoys winding people on here up about it. BUT Ive still not ordered a UK STI yet, even though I think its going to be the best Impreza yet The M3 will probably be the cheapest car in actual cost of any car since my Terzo. Not sure I could stomach the depreciation again on the new STI.

And your right I would be better of in an Astra , but my Bank Manager and all the local car salesmen wouldnt like me then

dsmith and scoobynutta

I bet you wish you actually had a car that you feel you could own for at least five years????
The folk who actually know me and read my posts would in the main agree with me.
You seem to forget I have owned 2 Subaru`s and am now fortunate enough to own something better.
The standard Impreza is equal to none in its real world performance versus actual cost stakes I have no doubt with this and I also believe that it is as much of a cult car as dare I say the "COSSIE".
I also Believe that the P1 is a great car but if you had been as unfortunate to put up with as much **** as I did with your £34K pride and joy I feel that you may well agree with me in a lot of areas.I will not bore you with that as you probably are not interested anyway.
I am proud to say that I now own a car that I feel is worth its value and dont have that " I`ve just been taken for a ride feeling"
What you think interests me in no way at all as you obviously feel that you have the best thing since sliced bread with four wheels.
Enjoy.
I know that Subaru have a cult following and I probably sat in an Impreza before you could even say Impreza I know this BBS is a Subaru one..I can read.
I continue to post on here for FUN....read......FUN.
Please try to take life in the fast lane a little less seriously or failing that get a job at Evo magazine where I`m sure they would make you very happy.
Oh and scoobynutta please dont talk to me about residuals as I was offerd £5K over what I paid for my car the other day.
I think you will notice if you care to look that M3 residuals are doing quite nicely at the moment but hey who cares.
Johnathan..............you I just cant work out.
Look mate I`ll give you £35K now for it. I know you got the wrong colour and gearbox mate but its the best I can do

It's one of the "off" points of Scoobynet that people can't open their eyes just a tad more and see that we may own good cars but certainly not the best cars.
ps some seem to have had a frontal labotomy(spolling!) which removed the humour cells!

Have to agree. Far too many Scoob owners can't take the blinkers off. Hell, I sold my 2001 WRX and went back to a 205 1.9 GTi. Far more playful. Couldn't afford an M3 sadly. Get a lazy lob-on every time I spot one.

PS Arron: You are the only one on the VIP list, just in case you post any more pics from the "International Bird Show".

I will not bore you with that as you probably are not interested anyway.
I for one was certainly interested in a comparions, well the first time you posted one anyway

What you think interests me in no way at all as you obviously feel that you have the best thing since sliced bread with four wheels.
For something that doesn't interest you - you do seem to need to respond. I though the point of you wind-ups was to get a response - so you are interested in how we reply ?

I think the point is I have never deluded myself that my impreza (a lowly MY95 - original and best) is the best thing since sliced bread. I am happy though that its the best car for my needs/wants/budget when I bought it and I havent ever felt ripped off. I may of course have thought differently had I spent more.

I know that Subaru have a cult following and I probably sat in an Impreza before you could even say Impreza
I dont actually recall the first time I said impreza so we'll probbaly have to leave this one

Please try to take life in the fast lane a little less seriously
Ditto

Deano

I'm sure if you get the right DivX working so you can wath the kylie vid, you'll be able to realx and put your P1 experience behind you.

I too am getting a little brassed off with your tutonic twaddle. It seems that you are intent on pi55ing as many people off on this BBS as possible. Your threads exhibit a great deal of consistency in their moronic content. Mind you at least you are consistant in you desire to constantly contridict your previous inane ramblings.
I don't car what you think I make up my own mind and I firmly believe that my lowly impreza is the best car around for me.
Your car doesn't impress me it's just a 318 that has driven through Halfords and aquired a set of cherry bombs and flared arches. Your constant sideways antics around Bedford proved extremly tiresome to the 2.0 turbos who were cueing up behind to take advantage of their superior traction and slingshot past. You obviously are not a very considerate driver, much in the same vein as most other Bmer drivers, how else do you explain not one car passing you all day in the wet.

Aaron,

Do you actually post this sort of thread to wind people up or to gloat that you can afford a £40k car and that the rest of us can only aim for a mere £20k scooby??

Thought you were an ok guy havinf read previous threads - into bikes and had a P1 - liked a joke, but is it me or are you becoming a bit of a self-appreciating tosser with a "ive got a small **** but a fancy car" attitude?????

If your just winding everyone up - then grow up

Well, I love my car it's great! I can drive it to it's full potential, it doesn't cost the earth to insure, I get reasonable mpg from it, I don't worry (too much) about it when I leave it..... I drive a Fiesta Si

I really don't see the need to slag each other off here, it's pointless. We're here mainly cos we have an interest in Subaru but it's cars in general that bring us together, surely we can all be friends? I'm sure there are good and bad points for both BMW and Subaru, who cares though, surely we all enjoy our own cars, if not, why have you still got it?

Merry Christmas everybody

I also seem to remember the following cars geting 5 stars too

Impreza P1 WRC
Impreza MY01 WRX
and Fiat Multipla

I really like the look and quality feel of the M3, but for a lot of people on here it's at least 10K more than they want to or can pay for a car. The fact that a 22 grand scoob can be mentioned in the same breath as a 38 grand car says a lot about the abilities of the Scoob. Is the M3 faster, more refined, better built and better looking. Sure, but for an additional 16 grand more it should be.

You buy what your budget can afford, come on guys stop being so snooty

Personaly I don't like BMW's. But appreciate that the new M3 is a bit of a beast, and one BM I would not be picking a fight with.

Yesterday a mates dad described his 318 as a true drivers car. I just gave a smile, but inside I was laughing my nuts off. An M3 drivers car yes. 318, I don't think so. Amazing what BM have managed with the marketing dept.

ok aaron, seriously, just how good is the new m3?
you've had a P1, and experienced other exotica (ooer) , so how does it compare?
how does it corner compared to a P1? how is it in the wet/icy conditions? does it run out of puff, or does it keep going and going?
any niggles with it? do you have the smg version, coz if i ever got one, thats the one i'd want.
any hassles from other drivers, or are you left well alone?
i'm genuinely interested in both yours and chins' opinion on this car

hehehe... I love this.... I have a new Scoob personally, but my work car is a BMW 330D Touring... OK... it's no M3, but it DID cost over £35,000 due to options.

It's had the following problems over 25k miles....
1... Central locking relay gave up (not stranded)
2... Immobiliser developed a fault (stranded!)
3... Leaking sunroof (shocking, especially at 900 quid extra!!)
4... Bit of aluminium interior trim popped off

Good build & finish???? YOU MUST BE JOKING!!!! Bag o' sh!te.

If it had been my own money.... I'd be gutted.... As it's not, IT'S HILARIOUS!!
German quality eh? Hope you have more luck than me, Mr. Bird!!

I'll give you my views after owning the car for a month, and also attending the same track day as Arron. One thing to remember is that despite his dodgy haircut Arron knows how to drive, I dont . He's also got a manual gearbox where I have SMG. He went for black, me grey. As I see it he probably scores double points in a game of snooker with plod, where grey doesnt even count for one

Where to start !!

Like

IMHO it looks as good as nearly anything on the road, but this is from someone that has owned a bugeye. Its great to see the reaction of Yuppies in their 318CI as they try not to look at you when they are going the other way, esp when their girlfriend is sat beside them (I know I'm sad). Ive had no hastle so far with people up my ****. Think the twin tailpipes and badge put them off.

Interior wise its great and just another league above the Scooby. The Harmon Kardon sounds good for the money and I like the small touches the car has. The Xenons are superb.

Engine wise the sound and power are superb. It is the best engined car Ive owned and when you nail it its quick

Gearbox wise when you are on track, or late home the SMG box makes me look a great driver. On track I gain on people I normally wouldnt because of the shift speed. I also like the downshifting, and blipping of the throttle it does for me

Handling in the wet. This is from someone that usually goes through a set of underwear when the car starts sliding. On track at Bedford in the wet, I pushed the car and it stayed pointing in the right direction. To say that Bedford was one of my best ever days driving is an understatement

Depreciation wise the car is the best yet. Waiting lists that made even a Scooby look short in its hayday make for great residuals. Look at people trying to sell their 6 month old UK300. They are losing £6k. In the same time I'll probably lose £2k max. So the extra cost is just the extra interest on the money you borrow. £15000 is approx £100 a month. Over 6 months that £600. So the car would cost me £2.5k over 6 months against £6k for a UK300 PPP. So it make for cheap motoring (relatively speaking !)

Dislikes

The SMG box is dificult to change gear smoothly in the first three gears. The car tends to lurch forward a bit. Also when very cold the car does an impression of a learner driver with no clutch control. It also surges a bit. Very poor for a car that costs this much.

The Ride is poor on B roads compared to my UK300. Whilst you can drive it at close to Scooby speeds it tells you about it where the UK300 wouldnt of. I also went for 19" wheels which cant help. I find I get paranoid about kerbing them. Did one already. At £400 at shot its not cheap to replace one of them. I do find that I drive the car with kid gloves, aware of it cost.

I just dont go out in it and drive naturally like I do in say the wifes Leon Cupra. But thats my problem, not the cars.

The car also has had more rattles than my 6 Scoobies put together.

Dealer wise, I prefer dealing with my Scooby dealer. Service at BMW dealers leaves a lot to be desired.

Finally, and I think Blowdog put it right, people think your a dick because you drive a BMW (they could be right in my case )
Plus I only get a two fingered salute from Scooby owners now

Conclusion

It is a great car and not really comparable with the Scooby. I could buy an UK STI and a 2 year old Elise for the same money. Maybe I will . Problem is I am not sure I can face the depreciation, interior and exterior of the UK STI after this.
