There is a mailing list which you can subscribe to here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/iom2002/

We have over 30 cars interested so far.

We also hope to get excellent deals for anyone travelling from Holland, Belgium or France, as well as the Scandinavian countries, which should make it truly an international event.

We have identified a couple of hotels which we think will suit most owners, and those who book up first will have first choice of hotels, rooms (some have 4 poster beds!) etc. Hope to have the complete package details very soon (ie within a week.)

Cool

Boomer - beat me to it

I was just going to update everyone by saying that we are still waiting on various approvals from the IoM, plus confirmation of the itenerary and other activities available.

Should be the event of the year

Just to say that John has sent out the event info to the interested parties, and it looks absolutely brilliant.

The fact that it is "officially sanctioned by the Isle of Man Government" means that it has got to be one of the best SIDC events EVER!!!

If you haven't expressed an interest, i would suggest that you do so now, before we fill all of the ferries up!!

Just a short update. The price has been set at a mere £333 per person for the whole weekend package. This includes ferry travel, hotel accommodation, some meals (welcome reception nibbles, BBQ and party evening, buffet lunch on one of the days, and of course the gala dinner). The only extra cost is if you wish to do the track event, at a cost of £50 per car (no extra fee for additional drivers).

This cost is based on two people sharing a car and a twin or double room. Currently about 90% of those coming are taking either a partner or a friend.

Booking information and a downloadable booking form are now available on-line at the shared files area of the mailing list (see above threads for link), and many of those who have already subscribed have booked up already. You only need pay a small deposit of £40 just now to secure your booking and reserve your room.

I'm also talking to a company on the Island about producing a video/DVD of the whole event for us

For those of you who can wait, full information and a booking form will appear in the next Issue of True Grip.

John

Sounds like a great trip and, since I already live on the island, I'll be looking forward to meeting up with everyone at the Track Day.

One question though, the original post mentioned that the Mountain section would be made one way and for the exclusive use of the Scoobies. Is this correct ? I've never heard of them doing that here before except for Mad Sunday.

p.s. Beware. There are speed limits here and they will enforce them. I speak from experience !!!

ScoobyMann,

yes they will close the road for us, though only for a few hours on the Sunday morning.

Everyone travelling to the event will be made fully aware of the speed limits in built up areas, roadworks etc, and to stick rigidly to them.

We've got quite a few local owners wanting to take part in the event, and I'm waiting back on a price, which will oviously be much less, as there will be no accomodation and ferry travel involved.

Thanks John, I asked a former Porsche owner after I had seen your post and he said that they had closed it on a Sunday morning for them. Should be a great weekend and I'm glad to hear about the speed limit thing as there is increasing pressure here for a 60mph all island limit (got rejected by the govt by 1 vote 18 months ago and they are apparently going to try again this year)

Well, I suppose I better get practicing across the mountain before you lot get hear then, I've only had my Scooby for 2 weeks and it would be embarrassing to get left too far behind !!

If I can be of help with any on-island arrangements just let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Cheers

Scooby-mann - we already have a couple of owners on the Island who have volunteered to help organise things there. I'll see if I can get all their e-mail addresses together, and perhaps you can meet up as a groups and sort some other activities out

Steve,

we are going to the Isle of Man between the 12th and 16th of September inclusive (Thursday - Monday).

Ferry crossings are Thursday morning (Liverpool/Seacat) or Thursday afternoon (Heysham/ferry) outbound, and Monday morning (7am or 9am), or Monday afternoon (about 4 or 5pm I think).

We are using two hotels on the Island. Mount Murray (which I think we have fully booked now ), and the Hilton on Douglas Promenade (complete with swimming pool, plenty of parking, casino and bar which is open until 3:30am every day).

Full details of the trip, including a booking form will appear in the next issue of True Grip due out very shortly, or you can book directly by telephone. You only need pay a £50 deposit just now, and pay the rest in July/August.

Cheers

The dates and prices have been confirmed for a while now. I revised my post on the first page to reflect all the info we know, but should have perhaps put a comment in this 3rd page to let everyone know. There is also a thread in general about the event, with full itinerary details.

In summary:

Dates - 12th - 16th September (Thursday - Monday).

Price: £333 per person, based on two sharing a twin/double room and car. Includes all events, hotel accommodation, ferry crossings, some meals. Only exception being the track event, which would have a £50 per car supplement for the whole day. No additional fee for extra drivers etc.

There are about 30 cars (about 55 people as most are taking partners/friends) booked up already (Mount Murray hotel is now fully booked), but still penty of space at the Hilton. We are expecting in the region of 60 - 100 cars to make the trip, so it will be a fantastic event

The easiest way to book is by phoning Magic Holidays who are handling all the bookings on 08457 585833. You need only pay a small deposit (£50) just now, with the rest being payable about 6 weeks before departure (you'll be sent an invoice). Shortly, you will also be able to book on-line as well

Exclamation

Just a warning to anyone who has joined the Yahoo! Group for the Birthday Bash. According to http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/24683.html they seem to "default" members to all kinds of spam . Sure enough i checked and found myself open to all kinds of "Special Offers & Marketing Communications".

Take the link http://subscribe.yahoo.com/showaccount and deselect the stuff that you don't want (i.e. all of it!).

Bloody spammers!!!!!

To get around any potential spam issues (you can turn it off if you wish), then a new forum on the SIDC BBS http:\\forums.sidc.co.uk has been set-up especially for the event to host all discussions

Likewise, i need to join can i do it there? or must i do it before it?

Due to being in Govt employment, if i give 2 months notice of cancelling can i get my deposit back or transfer it to someone else willing to take my space? I say this cause where i am living and working gets decided shortly and will likely affect whether i can go

You don't need to be a member of the SIDC to come along to the event, though it would be preferred

Deposit - I'm not sure on the cancellation situation. I'll try and find out for you, but tranferring the booking to another name wouldn't be a problem.

Cheers

Cool

STI Man - yes of course, we actually have about 5 or 6 booked up already.

You are getting a reduced rate, since you don't need the ferry crossing or hotel accommodation.

All you need to do is contact Magic Holidays on 08457 585833 to reserve your place. The price for local participation is a bargain £150

Can't make this trip unfortunately but I'm going to the Manx International Rally instead

The following information might be of use for anyone wanting to use a mobile phone on the Island. It was posted on the TT website a while back.

Cheers,

Ian.

From Manx Telecom website:-

First time visitor to the Isle of Man?

Advice to Mobile users before leaving for the Isle of Man

Manx Telecom Pronto GSM

Before you travel to the Isle of Man please ensure that:
Your network provider has a roaming agreement with Manx Telecom
International Roaming is enabled and that there are no call restrictions/call barring
Your GSM phone will support GSM900 mhz frequency or you have a Dual band GSM phone.
You are familiar with the Voicemail services of your home operator so you can divert unwanted/unanswered calls and retrieve messages whilst roaming in the Isle of Man. Your normal retrieval method may be different when roaming.
You have activated the Short Message Service (SMS) to make it possible to receive and send text messages whilst roaming in the Isle of Man.
Before you travel to the Isle of Man it may be useful to make a note of the Help Line number for your own service provider.
When in the Isle of Man making and receiving mobile calls

When you switch on your mobile, generally the display will read "Pronto GSM" or "Manx." However, some handsets may display "234-58" or "UK-58."
To contact you in the Isle of Man, family and friends at home will only need to dial your mobile number as normal. The networks will look after locating you wherever you are at the time.
Check your display to see who is calling as you may have the option of diverting calls to your Voicemail
Calls to retrieve your messages may be chargeable, please check with your network provider.
When roaming you will be charged for both incoming and outgoing calls. Check with your network operator for call charges.
If you are calling a fixed or mobile phone outside the Isle of Man you will need to use the full international code. Also, if you make a call to another mobile phone belonging to a friend who has travelled with you it will be necessary to use the full international code. Your call will be charged at the International Rate.
Visitors roaming from the UK will only need to use the National Code to call home and calls will be charged at the National Rate.
Coverage in the Isle of Man

Coverage is available in most places in the Isle of Man except mountainous or remote areas. During your ferry journey to and from the Isle of Man coverage may only be available at the beginning and end of your crossing. Coverage is not guaranteed in the Irish Sea. There are phones and phonecards available onboard the ferries.
Need Help?

If you encounter any problems whilst roaming in the Isle of Man you can contact the Manx Telecom Mobile Help Desk on 154.

Please also note: Prepaid services do not always work when roaming.
