is it worth getting my 2002 wrx mapped - has performance back box and panel filter.

Does anyone on here offer mapping? I am in the Bristol area. How much should it cost?

Try a PM to bob Rawle - think he's in Swindon.

Crikey! Who needs a decat? That is pretty impressive. Fuel pump changed too or are they improved for the '06 onwards?

Yes its certainly worth having a 02 WRX mapped.

Sports Cat downpipe (keeps it legal for MOT) - Secondhand 150. I chose a prodrive PPP sports cat downpipe with low mileage from Ebay.
Decat up-pipe - Secondhand 60
Decat Centre section - Secondhand 60
Backbox - Just search the for sale forum to see the ones available and the price range.
K&N or Green panel filter 40

Remap -
Ecutek 650. See many of the Ecutek mappers who post on here for a recommendation in your area

None Ecutek (OpenECU). Cheaper. See Jolly Green Monster who posts on here.

Results between 280-290 bhp with similar torque figures.

My fuel consumption didnt suffer (unless I drive it like an idiot all the time) and the car is much more driveable with less gear changes as its much more responsive low down, turbo spoolup is lower and stronger.

The minimum I was recommended before a remap was change panel filter and remove either the downpipe cat or the centre section cat. Leaving the downpipe cat and removing the other one will give you 250-260. Its the removal of up-pipe cat which helps turbo spoolup the most.

Edit:
Forgot to mention, Change the fuel pump if removing all the cats and mapping for 290. Walbro replacement pump for 70 ensures a good steady flow especially at high boost demands

Thanks for the info.

Are the Sports cats. much more expensive than the typical "no cat."

Does the Sports cat. on it's own suffice for passing the MOT?

190-290 quid for the Sports cat.? Could be worse!

Is there any performance loss with the sports cat.?

Mike Wood from prodrive, who posts on here, said either 2bhp or 2% (my old memory fails me as to which one) reduction with a PPP sports cat downpipe over a decat. I think until you get over the 300's and start to change turbo's the sports cat isnt restrictive enough to worry about when its the only cat in the system.

I found my Prodrive PPP sports cat on Ebay, get a low mileage later model secondhand if you can with the heat insulation built inside the metal surround of the cat, the earlier ones had a seperate fabric type heat jacket wrapped around the outside.

The other popular sports cat downpipe is the one sold by scoobyworld which gets good ratings by other members on here which have fitted it.
Ninja Downpipe with fast flow cat.

Impreza Turbo 2001-2005 New Age:Impreza Turbo 2001-2005 New Age: Scoobyworld Afterburner Vortex [AFTERBURNERBB] - £279.99£249.99

You could of course decat completely and just replace the centre cat under the car (much easier than swapping the downpipe) at MOT time which is a popular choice.

I have noticed that at MOT time folks do replace the parts.

I think I'll go with the Sports cat. when the time comes. It is good hear that are "cheaper" alternatives on the market.

Is there a big noise difference on a sports cat. to a 'normal' de-cat.?

I have also thought of a re-map, and then when the time and cash comes, get the other pieces of the "puzzle" together.

By paying(license)/mapping the first time, and then buying the relevant parts at a later date and installing them, am I going to have to do another re-map to get the whole package working properly?

The Ecutek license fee is what makes the first map so expensive. Once you have paid the initial fee you will be looking at 200-250 for subsequent maps. Yes you will need another remap if you significantly change the setup, such as decatting at a later date.

For a non-EcuTek map, and hence cheaper as there is no license fee, contact Jolly Green Monster on here. He has done a lot of members maps, comes with a good reputation and I should imagine can provide references for piece of mind. Always ask a mapper for references, if people are happy with their work and, just as importantly, their advice then they will be only too pleased to recommend their mapper.

Non Ecutek mapping is not as common and not as many mappers do it, I dont know why.

Thanks, I needed to hear that!

I am looking into eventually using Powerstation, I see they are some of the many sponsors on here.

Thank you again!

I'm pretty sure you will find enough people ready to sing the praises of power station, always pays to ask tho. Pop a thread on General forum asking for opinions.

LOL, no, I meant that brand new, the decat downpipe will be £190, the sportscat £290 (the API one). Worth it, I reckon.

Just out of interest anyone care to say how much their re-maps cost, by this I mean ONLY the re-map?

It would be great to know how prices vary.

Thanks

My first Ecutek cost 650 all in. Dropped the car off and it was road mapped. Didnt have to drive it myself during mapping.

So being non-ecutek makes it cheaper because you dont pay for the ecutek license?
