wrong, sorry it failed on my standard car and have heard of many others that have failed as well, I even know some people who just get them changed every 2/3 years as a matter of course...

Get yourself down to Xtreme Scoobies in Essex (Xtreme Scoobies - Tel: 01245 363623) not only will they be cheaper than a main dealer you also have the added bonus that they know what they're doing.

Since you all seem to be quite helpful with girl Scooby owners maybe you can give me a bit of advice too.

I have a tracking device fitted to my car which isnt set up and it isnt registered. Who do i contact to register it in my name and how much does it cost? Thanks

Can you ask the previous owner of the car as they surely should have some paperwork for it.

I think you'll have to get someone to find the tracker (wherever it is) and see if it has any id marks (who makes it etc) then go from there.

As far as i know they all come from Subaru.
What you could do is find a friendly subaru specialist and see if you can borrow a new MAF (my local specialist always keeps them in stock from Cheam Motors) and see if that is actually the problem.

Unfortunately there aren't any after market sensors that I know of. On the later type Scoobs (1998> I think) the cartridge type MAF is about £90 from the dealers but it sounds like yours is the older hot wire type.

However before changing it try cleaning it first. The MAF is wire in the air intake which has an electrical current passed through it to heat it. As the air flows over the wire it cools it and changes its resistance. This indicates how much air is flowing. If it's covered in gunk then the cooling effect of the air passing over it will be significantly reduced. Clean off the gunk and it should work fine again.

You should be able to clean it with a cotton bud soaked in brake or carb cleaner. Just be gentle as they are a bit fragile.

Thanks for the advise I think I will try & clean it first & if that doesn't work see if I can sweet talk my way into borrowing a sensor as suggested & go from there!! Oi oi!

Abit too much flirting going on
You need to find out what tracker it is i.e RAC trackstar or tracker uk, then phone them up tell them you vin number they can then test the unit from there without seeing the car if the unit is still wired in all you have to do then is register the unit to your name and address and start paying your yearly fee.
If the unit does not pass the test you will need to take it in for investigation and poss replacement unit.
Iknow abit on this as i am a regestered tracker uk fitter in a bmw workshop.
hope this helps, if you need help in locating the unit give me a shout but can't tell you everything on here just in case the wrong person reads this.

The box should be about 5.5inches long 3 wide and 1 deep and should be hidden behind a trim panel with wires taped into a loom. The box on your windscreen is probably a mobile phone gps aerial from a handsfree kit.
The tracker may be in the boot or behind the glove box, when fitting we do try and hide them so it takes as long as poss to find. hope this helps. Mo
