The people left in Italy started up Anonimo using the old Panerai facilities after the Richemont buyout... some say Panerai are now another overpriced jeweller rather than the watchmaker it used to be. The diver's watchers have an average rep for being waterproof, for instance!
That said, Richemont own some v pukka watchmakers too (inc IWC I think).

I have a Tag Heur and a Brietling but they are both replicas
My mate has the real deal Brietling and if you put the 2 together you cannot tell them apart, same weight, automatic movement, identical in every way except mine cost £40 from Turkey and his cost £2800.
I wouldnt waste my dosh on a watch

I have a a breitling colt gmt, cost me 1200 notes but I still love puting it on every day, get a lot of comments from people all the time which is always nice.
Want a vintage rolex now, just an oyster but think they look very classy.
Enjoy your watch.

Citizen AV003159E Watch
Japanese Quartz movements from Seiko and Citizen are generally regarded as better than Swiss anyway.

My local jeweller now adds links and changes straps for me free of charge and i'm delighted I gave them my money.
I wouldn't expect a plummer to do an hours work then not pay him...

This was a very limited edition in 2001 run by Goldsmiths of 60 Lancaster and 60 Mosquito watches. Commemorating the 1st flight of these two aircraft back in 1941.
This was the advert in the local rag.
This is the authenticity cert. signed at the bottom by Group Captain James Tait who took over from Cheshire as CO of 617 Squadron (Dambusters).
This is the model of a Dambuster Lancaster complete with "Bouncing bomb" on the trailer in the bottom left corner. This all came with the watch.
And this was my dad at the rear of his 101 Squadron Lancaster back in 1943.The proud reason for me purchasing this watch.

Unless the Breitling is a limited edition (49/60) & your family has connections with one of these :-

Agree with this. Surely Breitling are the "scissor sisters" of the watch world if they are worn by easyjet pilots?
Joking aside though, I would recommend a second hand datejust if you can pick one up, plenty of second hand watch dealers with websites, secondtime around, etc, or pop into your local jeweller.
Despite being in Great Yarmouth, there is a great jeweller there called *** and Son who have a good selection of second hand Rolex.
How about considering an Omega Speedmaster??

IF I was to spend serious money on a watch, it would be a Panerai.
As it is, I have two perfectly useful G shocks.
One all black SS strapped Ana Digi (new) Cockpit.
The other a nuclear bomb proof full digi that has lasted eight years of surfing, demolition work, car crashes, MTB crashes, etc, etc without anything more than two battery changes.

Modern full size gents Rolex on a 'budget', I went for a GMT2 as my introduction to Rolex. Lovely looking watch, and not too 'flash'.

To my mind and that of many 'WIS' most Breitling's are tacky in the extreme and lack finesse in their design details. If you want a chunky watch and don't want to pay a lot for it they are good enough quality however. Massive depreciation is the price you pay for poor taste though.......
Panerai are just badge engineered fashion watches these days IMO. Anonimo is Panerai.
Rolex is predictable but doesn't depreciate- a good choice if you pick the right model you might even make money. Problem is everyone will think you are wearing a fake and they are oh-so predictable.
An Omega could provide a nice balance of cost/quality/depreciation, particularly if you buy the right model pre-owned but not worn and someone else has taken the first hit.
My own personal favourite at the moment is this which I bought at a great price and which will only appreciate as time goes by.........

Small word indeed. ***'s always reminds me of Grace Brothers as it is so old school in there, but you do get great service, good watches and it is only 15 miles down the road, what could be better!

Option 1:
If you're worried about depreciation just spend £99 on a perfectly good watch and stick about £2,000 in a building society.
That way you will earn £100 a year in interest and not have to pay about £80 to get the battery changed.
In 10 years time you will have about an extra £1,200, your £2,000 and a perfectly good watch still.
Option 2:
Alternatively, you spend £2,000 on a watch.
With option 1 you end up with a watch and £3,200, with option 2 you end up with a watch.
The choice is yours!
