Haven't had any for a few years now as I no longer move in those circles, but I'm not averse to it. Can take it or leave it, like everything.

ive personally never smoked, and as far as i know, out of my cirlce of friends and family, im the only person in said circle to have never even tried one.

my fiance doesnt smoke either, so our house hold is a no smoke zone. any mates who do smoke come round, theire outside for a *** on the path... even relatives, mum etc if they wanna smoke.

i couldnt give two ***** what the weather outside is like. growing up i had two parents that continually smoked around me, and for this reason, i have asthma now probably for the rest of my life. i have no pity for smokers, and personally (although controversial) approve totally of the ban.

The NHS need to say this to stay on-message. I can't remember off hand how many billions is made each year from smokers but I believe there's plenty of money left.

Plus more smokers snuffing it early means less burden on pensions etc. for doddery old gimmers who aren't contributing.

Smoking is a really stupid thing to do, however I find it makes me look cool and hard.

In your eyes only.

The majority will think it makes you look stupid, weak willed and a bit smelly.

I think it's far worse seeing young women smoke, for me it's the biggest turn off. Why do young women make the effort to look stunning then sit with a *** in their mouth?
I could never have a relationship with someone who smokes, I find the smell repulsive and the habbit disgusting.

Cheers

This is true, check out the ASH website - even the anti smoking lobby can't make this arguement. Tax revenue for 2005-2006? £8bn cost to the NHS? £1.4bn so a massive £6.6bn profit for the govenrment. Also tobacco industry reckons to employ about 10,000 people and provides linked jobs (haulage etc) to 100,000 more. that's a massive chunk from the budget.

Also, don't forget we are all apparently living longer so the retirement age is going up to pay for it. That's despite all the booze, ****, red meat and salt we are unhealthily consuming.

I don't smoke but i have to say i don't have a problem with those who do. Newsflash - everyone dies, most smokers still die old and lots of non smokers get cancer, have heart attacks, die from a stroke - death is the only certain thing about being alive so how many of these deaths are premature? Whose to say that they would have lived longer? You read stories about supposedly healthy people dropping dead at a young age, not much you can do about it really!

We can all quote the smoking granny who lived to 112 but here's another story.

I had a heart attack three years ago, I don't smoke, not overweight, no family history and low cholestoral. So it can happen to anyone.
But I did a rehabilitation program with over 45 other recovering individuals and I was the only non smoker.
After 13 weeks I left the program feeling much better and started working out at my local health club, 3 years on I feel great.
I kept intouch with many on the course via emial and the majority are in poor health or are awaiting bypass surgery.

If you smoke it's up to you but don't kid yourself that you will not pay for it later in life. You may live long but in what condition? The last 20 years gasping for breath, nah I wont take that risk.

Cheers

stopped smoking in january started when i ws 14 now im 25 11 years of pumping sh1te into my lungs. Havent got a prob with other people smoking if anything feel sorry for them paying a fiver a pop and being crap at sport cos their lungs cant perform. have noticed my fitness go through the roof since i stopped play 5 aside and squash and can really be part of the game rather than being fu<ked 10 mins into it. Performance in the sack is a lot more duracell than tesco value batteries as well.

havent put any weight on but maybe have balanced that out with extra sport i play so in effect doubled positive effects

Winner...and using the money im saving for an awesome holiday this summer.

Last thing is that after a night out my jeans reek of smoke and i think thats what you smelled like after you had a *** getting dressed in the morning putting on a freshly washed shirt and a dab of old spice

Started when i was 13/14 and was soon caning 20 a day, as well as daily lashings of *ahem* green

Gave up the green a couple of years ago, and gave up smoking on new years day this year, and not had one since, so thats 4 and a half months now since i smoked a cig

Dont really feel any better for it TBH, but the smell of it makes me wonder why i ever bothered, bring on the public ban, sick of smelly clothes after 2 hours in the pub

My dad always told me there was nothing worse than a reformed smoker, and in my case he's right, i cant stand it now

To be honest mate, i dont really miss it, just smoked too much of it in my life time
The smell still makes me smile and wonder if i could just have a little toke now and again without buying quaters every few days, but if i had a blast these days, id just go green and leg it off to my pit rapid style

Stick with it mate, the desire will soon go, just think of the spondullas you'll be saving, i used to spend £70 a week on it so i know ive saved plenty since i gave up

Ahh by weed i ment just normal tobacco - pretty sure the wakybaki would have been much easier to give up.

I sometimes rationalise it by thinking of a junkie... I look at junkies and think, how can they do it - pumping crap into them, I could never imagine doing that to myself. I then realise that This view is probably the same as 100% anti smokers have of the former me, how could a smoker inhale those 4000 chemicals and enjoy it? or ever get hooked? (it takes alot of work to get addicted to cigarettes, although recent studies suggest that as little as 4 smokes can hook you for life).

Same thing really, different drug. Time has made smoking more acceptable. Apparently nicotine is harder to quit than heroin.

As for me after quitting, the waves come and go. At the moment I have no desire to have a smoke - tomorrow morning might be a different story. Ive learned its all about that balance inside you, one of the scales are non smoking the other is smoking. Its up to you which path you take and how strong your willpower is - and man its testing me at the moment..... I look at the face of my little girl and that strengthens my resolve each day.

Opps i thought you were you were on about...... oh well never mind

Well, any sort of smoking is super addictive, and the sooner stopped the better
I only really get the craving when im pissed and in the pub, but even thats nearly not an issue anymore, the smell speakes for itself
I do miss chilling out on a sunday, after a day cleaning the car, sipping a brew with a reefer in my other hand, smiling at my gleaming car

I recon there will always be moments of weakness with any smoker that has kicked the habit, but thats dirty **** for you, its a mugs game, and i aint a mug any longer

A pint of beer is about ~ 200 kcal - or the same as a Mars bar as a rough equivalent

So your 6 cans of Stella a night are like consuming an extra 6 Mars bars a day - not hard to work out why the weight gain is occuring...

Ive actually lost weight since quitting. Although i'm chewing through at least 1 packet of Extra chewing gum a day - cant be good for my jaws Maybe im skipping junk that I used to eat whilst chewing gum....

Never tried the NRT this time although have in the past, imo its a waste of time as your not breaking the addiction to Nicotine, more torturing yourself trickling little amounts into your system making it want more!

I stopped 12 weeks ago after a blood vessel burst inside my eye thro 20 years of smoking. **** me up big time - so does the laser surgery! I stopped just like that. I used the nasal spray stuff about once or twice a day and the gum (about 2 peices) for 6 weeks. Had minor cravings, but I'd rather keep my eyesight TBH!

You makes yer choices and you live yer own lives! Cant wait til the ban comes in though. Hate going out and waking up next day stinking! Disgusting habit! I said it was when I smoked, and I'm worse now!

I was hooked for a long time but always worried about the likely outcome eventually. I tried a few times to stop unsuccessfully.

I had to spend a while in hospital after I fell off the roof and during the time before I was allowed home from there I was not able to smoke because I was not mobile at the time.

This was a great start to the campaign and I managed to resist having another smoke ever again. Have not had the urge since. You get stronger at resisting as time goes by.

One way I managed to stay committed was to imagine sitting in front of my doctor being told I had maybe 6 months left including the intensive and unpleasant Chemotherapy just to give me a bit more time.

Marvellous how that sharpens the concentration!

Unfortunatley having Chemo didnt work with me, I regulary used to sit in the smoke room (only one in the hospital and it was on the cancer ward of all places) whilst having my Chemo

Les I did ask them at the time I was having Chemo, as to why they had a smoke room, as it seemed a little bizarre

They told me that the main reason was that the stress enough of having Chemo, they didnt want to inflict more stress on the smokers by banning them from smoking too, just to add to their stress

I have to confess I spent the majority of my time in the little smoke room doing jigsaws etc as I couldnt really do much else

It was quite a few years ago though now, when smoking wasn't quite deemed so bad in hospitals

I dare say it has long gone from there now though
