My wife had one, due to previous ops they went top to tail, her bowel was fused to her stomach and they cut straight through it whilst damaging the bladder at the same time.
Consequently the wound was left to heal naturally (about 2" x 3" gaping) intensive care for 4 days where she had an infection and was on 60% oxygen, the doctor said she was one of the poorliest on the ward and the lady opposite died that night.
