Does God exist?
Anyone with a free mind simply cannot believe that we were created by some **** sitting up in heaven and if we don't believe in him we'll end up in purgatory or hell or wherever.
There's more chance of the tooth fairy being real than any of the many Gods. (and there's no chance that the tooth fairy is real - just incase there's any god believers who also believe in the tooth fairy.
Any bible bashing sheep that want to claim you can have a free mind and believe in God - You're brain washing has simply been more effective

As I said before - Gods were made up as a way of controlling the thick.

And one day it will be wiped out - no doubt the God lovers will tell us all that God took a hairy fit and threw the asteroid at us to shut us all up
my two pennorth as I say to my wife who has a degree in theology and is one piece of paper away from being a minister.
God is the emotional crutch available to those who believe they need one and benefit from it as they see fit, the nature of God itself is only a problem when the nature to those people who believe in it inflicts hurt on others in the cause of their belief regardless or otherwise of their victims belief.
there is no theoretical need for the argument does god exist as i see it, any sane person will tell you no-one can prove the existence or not of a god what matters is if you believe he exists and until proof exists he or she does or does not exist surely that is enough. best hurry up she will be back from church soon.
bit heavy for a sunday morning granted but there you go.

...because some really big omnipotent white dude with a beard getting bored one week and thinking.. "I know.. I'm gonna make some **** and then tell them they've gotta love me or I'm going to send them somewhere really unpleasent for falling under the infulence of someone who I'll tell them is far less powerful than I am, but I'm just too lazy to do anything about them/don't care enough/curious to see if they're stupid enough to fall for it" is far more probable..
This sort of thing always ends up polarising into those who are abrahamic theist (be they Jewish, Christian or Islamic) - and everyone else, be they atheist, agnostic, polythiest or pantheist. Seems sad to me that the Abrahamics have managed to monopolise the spirtual debate into their very narrow idea of what divinity is and what it should mean to people.

Who made God ? Presumably the answer would be "God is superior - we can't hope to understand". In other words, an element of faith, or at least the acceptance that we don't know everything, is a necessity whether one is a theist or an athest.
Realised I didn't answer that post of Davids.
The universe is so amazing, such an awesome event of nature, that I think a theists attempt to explain it by humanising its creation is an utter insult and affront to the natural powers that created the universe. the 'mind boggling beauty and complexity" of the universe IS divine as it is. It created us and if it could think I'm sure the human race, and indeed our planet, wouldn't even be a blip on its conscience. The theist view of god and divinity is nothing but utter human arrogance.

A question for you David :

All I am saying is that my PERSONAL view is that it seems quite feasible for there to be other things/powers in the huge universe aside from some creatures, humans, that live in a simple 3 dimensional world. Comprehending anything with other dimensions is simply not possible (we can think about things like time travel etc but that really is pretty basic). Now if people want to stereotype those other forces, or whatever the word is, into "some really big omnipotent white dude with a beard getting bored one week" then that's fine by me; may be it's their waying of dealing with something that is incomprehensible.
The more nature unravels itself whether that is courtesy of David Attenborough or just a cobweb on a frosty morning the more I think there is more to it than just coincidence. I must say I find it disappointing that so many on here feel it necessary to simply insult those with other views; it really is rather childish. dl
Couldn't agree with you more David.
Happens so often with so many threads on here, folks getting insulting and rude when they simply don't agree with a point of view. That's why I'm sliding out of the picture more and more. Pretty infantile really.

Have to agree, have you also noticed its often the same names who can't add to the debate so just offer insults.
nice post thats why i stayed oot as well, no one will let u have a decent discussion and explain and just hurl abuse
I'd say there isn't just enough evidence to give absolute certainty either way. i.e. nobody can prove that God does or does not exist. So positions 1. and 7. are fundamentally flawed IMHO.
Although 70% of Scoobynet seems to disagree!
I kind of like those odds

I voted 7. As there is not a doubt in my mind. I think as a country the Uk is the least religious of any and that's a good thing.
This thread really makes me remember a bill hicks sketch, i can't quote, but from memory - Isn't it funny how the people that believe in creationism look least evolved?
'god created me in 6 days'
'yeah, well it looks like he rushed it'
I could quite happily leave the religious to there own views, but it does seem that it's the cause of a huge proportion of this planets problems. I'm entirely against it.

You beat me to it. Maybe they know something we don't?

I didn't think I did insult you, did I ?

I don't understand what you mean but would like to know, if possible..
