It's the 6 month figure I'll be interested in. If the Europe sales trends follow those of the USA, then the PS3 will be lagging behind both the wii and the 360 (despite the impressive opening weekend). Will be intersting to see if it happens
I mean, you can just make up your own stats as you go.

But who is trying to form any conclusions? Not me. I am simply posting up the result of the launch and commenting on how impressive it is in isolation, given the price point / lack of gift purchasing.

Ed, i wont turn you into an ostrich on my Live buddy list
Well after yesterdays play on the neighbours machine i went and bought one from Game. Console plus 2 games (Resistance and Motorstorm) and 3 yr warrenty for Ł510, inc a rebate for some loyalty points
Just updating the thing the now
Hate having to input everything by txt style format, suppose i need a USB keyboard.
Will download the GT HD demo later and give that a good thrashing
So quiet compared with the 360

From gamesindustry.biz:
Sales of the PlayStation 3 have dropped dramatically on the second week of release in the UK, with official Chart Track figures revealing a fall of 82 per cent.
A spokesperson for Chart Track confirmed the figure to GamesIndustry.biz this afternoon, stating: "Yes, sales of PS3 hardware have dropped by 82 per cent."
Last week, Chart Track revealed that the PlayStation 3 had sold 165,000 units in the first two days following the launch, making it the fastest-selling home console in the UK.

Inevitable really, there's not enough quality launch titles and the price is too high
To be fair it's the same with most big product launches, it was similar for PS2 etc. It will stay fairly slow through to autumn then it will start picking up. Xmas 07 will be where the real battle will start and we will begin to get a realistic view of the market. Should be very interesting to watch.

If a company has to maximise its return, its going to hit as many platforms as possible, the fastest way is to give each platform the same product (game) at the same time, Code for the minumum spec that will run on each platform uniformly, that maximises your return. (thats what i would do )
How many s/w houses can devote coders to exploit the potential of the PSŁ at the same time as coding the other games, even allowing for the same core engine etc being used? Back in the eightys, when there wasnt the same business ethic, then you would see coders exploiting a consoles strengths, as they had the time and no business model to work to. Commodore tried the extra coding trick on the 020 based Amiga's, how many games were released? Not many i know of!
OK so MGS 4 will be an exclusive, and may set a new benchmark, but will it be enough? die hard fans and some people new to the genre will buy it, but will it generate enough sales to convince other s/w houses to do the same?
As you well know its a cutthroat market, how many will comit to a console that may or may not pay off. You mentioned that MS dumped the xbox without warning, they certainly wer'nt the first, and they certainly wont be the last.
Now i,m not a fan of the Xbox, and have been loyal to sony following the PS1 & 2, but even i'm struggling to put together a good case to purchase the new unit. To the point that the 360 is looking to be a tempting case given that it has a good portfolio of games allready released.
As for the other apps the PSŁ has, unless your going down that route, most housholds wont want to duplicate what they allready have (pc, internet etc)
OK bluray is good, but unless you have the capability to use it what do you gain,
I think the only way sony will gain ground, is to get the consoles into more homes, and at the moment the only way to do that is to drop the price, even then, it will be touch and go given MS's 1 years headstart
