Not sure how long Orb will be around in it's current form. Looking at it, you can share stuff on the PC and view it on a PS3 in a different country (it streams it to the wii and ps3 via the internet through the web browser).

Apart from the obvious annoyance of having the browser toolbar open all the time, it does raise one or two legal questions concerning copyright, and knowing how Sony have been trying to sue everyone under the sun for copyright infringement lately, I can't see them taking too kindly to this...

Will be interesting to see how it develops

Sony have put 220,000 units of the most technologically complex and advanced game console ever made into UK retail from day one and for that they should be applauded, not derided.
I wasn't actually deriding them, but hey thats your interpretation.

Really ? Hadn't looked into it that much, just tried streaming my own files to the console which worked reasonably well.

If so, is there a big difference between this and something like Slingbox ?

Picked mine up this morning and very pleased with it. Can still see my 360 getting more use but RFOM and Motorstorm are great starters.

Having a bash at the browser (typing this message from it, with keyboard) which is ok, not fab but usable. Tis nice to sit on the sofa in front of the plasma for the odd bit of surfing....

That's what it says on the orb website (I've not tried it myself yet). It has to go through a browser on the wii and ps3 because they are not media extenders. The 360 is, and so it can stream the stuff directly over the network without having to use a browser or other 3rd party tool to access the streams.

No idea what a slingbox is, so can't comment on that

I like the shots of the barge on the river during the event, covered in 360 logos

maybe the rest just came along for a free tv LOL

just read this about the france event

At 10 pm, a majority of smiling journalists received on their mobile phones a written message wishing them a good evening from “Team Xbox”. Later, a large illuminated and trumpeting boat passed by with Xbox 360 logos all over. Microsoft became the instantaneous uninvited star of the evening.
LMAO this actually happend??? that is awesome

Just come back from comet where one was running...

now the console may be good??? although it was hidden away....

but the first gen game.....F1 racing? thing

absolutly appaling!!!!!!

I would guess the PS3 is a 256bit machine? (lost count after the 128bit stuff)

graphics were on par with a PS1/2

the tyres on the cars as they took the corners and showed close up shots were octagonal!!!!!

not a good start in my view...

interstingly enough, one of the reviews i read earlier, equalled out the earlier which is best spat, whereby people have been comparing xx game on the 360 to its PS3 release...

the explanation was obvious...

the PS3 games are striaght ports of Xbox games, so at worst they would be no better than the xbox, given that they werent developed on the PS£!!

apparantly MGS4 will be the one to set the new benchmarks

me..... i,m still undecided.....it has a lot going for it, but the price is a killer

I dont have a PS3 and don't intend to get one until the price drops to about £300 and there are more games out. However, I do agree with a previous poster that we will look back at this thread in a few years time and laugh when the PS3 has sold 200 million units.
People just don't seem to realise that you are getting a BluRay player as well as a fledgling games console that will get better with age. Why spend £1000 on a BluRay player when you could get a PS3 for £425.

Not a strong argument, Samsung have a player for £500 and in a few months they'll be players for £150.

In any case the PS3 player is a poor performer. As well as that I wouldn't want an ugly console in my expensive home cinema setup, nor I am willing to pay the ridiculous price for the Bluray discs either.

You can buy standalone BluRay players for under $499 now, and Sony themselves have said they are expecting to see sub $299 players by the end of the year. Plus the PS3 BluRay playback has just got a very average review in what-hifi this month (when compared to cheaper Hitachi standalone units).

But you can't play games, browse the internet, download apps and new content to a blu ray player. Plus the vast vast majority of people that would buy this for the reason above are not going to be audiophiles, and will NOT see the difference between the PS3 bluray and a standalone. It really is that simple. Get a good HDMI cable, and you just won't know the difference.

Some of you just look silly in your desperation to be negative towards the console.

Also regarding launch line-up, okay if you already have a 360 there is not a lot 'new' however for those that have been waiting for the PS3, they have undoubtedly the biggest and best launch line up of any console in history.

Please stop with the fanboyisms and look at the facts.

Well, I don't consider myself an audiophile. In fact with my dodgy eyes and severe colour blindness I would consider myself the opposite. But, even I could see the difference between the PS3 playback and the standalone player playback when I popped into town this morning to have a look (I was trying to find an excuse to spend some money, but decide to save my money instead).

Equally, it could be said that some of you look silly in your desperation in trying to defend it

Like what exactly. Only two of the launch games are even vaguely worth looking at (Motor storm and resistence), and both of those are pretty average. They look pretty, but the games themselves are pretty mundane.

Please stop with the fanboyisms and look at the facts.
You mean facts like lack of decent games despite already being available in retail outlets for several months (in Japan and USA) and when the developers have had them significantly longer, the lukewarm launch reception, the huge price tag, the fact that the 360 is consistently outselling the PS3 in the USA (and it looks possible the same trend may be happening here) etc?

I'm not a fanboy of any kind. I genuinely want a PS3, (after all, I've bought practically ever other console ever made) but there's just no reason to get one at the moment, and looking at the forthcoming lineup, I can't see any reason to get one either, (not until at least next year anyway).

It's a shame, because I fancied a new gadget

Regardless, I really don't care what platform I happen to be playing - I just want to be playing great games BUT right now I can't see any !!

I am not defending the console, I am presenting you with facts that you are overlooking.

The price for example, once you add an x360 wireless adapter and a HDDVD addon, what price does that come to? Also what about when the 360 owners need to buy a larger hard drive? Also what about the poor sods who decided to buy a 'basic' model?

Who care if it was a year late? In most people in the industries eyes the 360 was too early to market, MS pi$$ed a LOT of people off by ditching the Xbox 1 so early and completely.

As for the launch line up, as I said, if you didn't already have an x360, how can you complain about the following:

Resistance: Fall of Man SCEE Disc
MotorStorm SCEE Disc
Genji: Days of the Blade SCEE Disc
FORMULA ONE CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION SCEE Disc
Ridge Racer 7 SCEE Disc
Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection SCEE Network
Lemmings SCEE Network
Go! Sudoku SCEE Network
Go! Puzzle SCEE Network
Blast Factor SCEE Network
flOw SCEE Network
Super RubaDub SCEE Network
Call of Duty 3 Activision UK Ltd Disc

Tony Hawks Project 8 Activision UK Ltd Disc
Gundam - Target in Sight Namco Bandai Games Disc
Full Auto 2: Battle Lines SegaEurope Ltd Disc
Sonic the Hedgehog SegaEurope Ltd Disc
Virtua Fighter 5 SegaEurope Ltd Disc
Virtua Tennis 3 SegaEurope Ltd Disc
World Snooker Championship 2007 SegaEurope Ltd Disc
NBA 2K7 Take 2 International SA Disc
NHL 2K7 Take 2 International SA Disc
Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWll Ubisoft Entertainment SA Disc
Enchanted Arms Ubisoft Entertainment SA Disc
Tom Clancys Splinter Cell: Double Agent Ubisoft Entertainment SA Disc
The Elder Scrolls lV: Oblivion Ubisoft Entertainment SA Disc
Def Jam: Icon Electronic Arts Ltd Disc
EA SPORTS Fight Night Round 3 Electronic Arts Ltd Disc
NBA Street Homecourt Electronic Arts Ltd Disc
Need for Speed Carbon Electronic Arts Ltd Disc
The Godfather The Dons Edition Electronic Arts Ltd Disc
Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 07 Electronic Arts Ltd Disc
Untold Legends Dark Kingdom Electronic Arts Ltd Disc
F.E.A.R. Vivendi Universal Games Intl SA Disc
Gripshift Sony Online Entertainment Network

The average attach rate with a new console purchase is about 2.4 games, with the GTHD demo alone representing hours of play, I think any new owner is spoilt for choice.

yes
but thats the whole point
a lot of people DO have a 360
and out of the list you posted
almost all the games are available on the 360 with better graphics, the flawless xbox live a cheaper price etc
whats the point in paying a small fortune for a games console with little or no unique games
motorstorm and resistance dont stack up against GROW2 or GEARS OF WAR

Very easy...... many of the above ARE NOT available at launch!!!!

Elder scrolls (end of April) being the most noticeable!!!
Fear (end of April)
Splinter cell (end of March)
NBA 2K7 (Early April)
Rainbow 6 vegas (End of April)

Launch titles are games available to purchase on launchday..

IF ESIV was available as a launch day title, then i would have a PS3 downstairs as we speak.. the titles i saw didnt inspire

Now whats the betting that when ESIV is released the bundle packs will cease!!!

Given this was a much vaunted launch, and should have been sony's jewel in the crown for europe....

only 2 shops i went into had a model on display....

only one of those offered a playable version.

NONE of the independants i visited had the model on display (empty shell or otherwise)

Launch titles varyied wildly from store to store...

woolys had the worst line up

Game station the best, but as i said the games that you said on your list were lacking
