Thanks mate, that's a good time for a road mod car! There is plenty more time left out there for me, box will be fixed after Zen get back from Knockhill and I can finish a run without missing gears.

Keith Edwards in the Red SWB Quattro (pictured on previous page) who I race with regularly down here is a good yardstick as to what times I should be looking to do eventually. Last season we were within a few tenths of each other at Loton, Shelsley & Prescott sometimes me quicker sometimes him and he has done a 60.00 at Harewood.

I have entered the event on July5/6th at Harewood so hope to go a lot quicker!

Good to see you're starting to get to grips with it Rob. Looking forward to seeing how you'll do on Epynt, are the brakes sorted for big stops?

The brakes are really bedded in now and very impressive, can haul me down pretty sharpish, is there a course map on the net for epynt?

great! are you at scooby shootout?my first time there so dont know what to expect or what the car will do.Do you run the whiteline alk?as i suffer from understeer and its loosing me alot of time.I have just done Curborough single lap in 33.81 but suffered loads of understeer out of last corner which lost me loads.Even at Aintree sprint where its all fast i suffer from it.Has anyone been there to compare my times?managed a 48.49sec run which for road mod was a class record.

I can't do scooby shootout as my car is not road legal at the moment.

33.81 is very quick mate, your only 0.18 seconds off Roy Standley's mod prod record!

I do run the ALK, infact I run whiteline everything. I found a stronger rear anti roll bar and proper sprint/hillclimb geometry got the best results for a reduction in understeer. You will always get understeer on 1A rubber when pushing a 4wd hard, you can only try and balance it with a more tail happy set up, oversteer is a lot faster than speed sapping understeer.

Never been to Aintree, but well done on the record mate.

thanks for that, what geometry set up do you run?as it would be good to try something different.as i do all my own work bar mapping it is easy for me to change.any help would be appretiated.Aintree is avery fast flowing circuit with only 3 corners which are open and long,my top spd over line was 143mph on the limiter in 5th tried 6th but was slower.

I made my first visit of the season to Loton Park today for a B meet, it was raining when I got there and raining when I left and didn't let up for a second inbetween.

I took the class win and was very close to FTD which is pretty good going on slicks with 500bhp in the soaking wet.

Today was the first time I really enjoyed driving the car with the new spec, some buggeration with my driving position and a few other tweeks and it felt really good to drive and I finaly felt at home driving it.

A couple of weeks off now till the big national meet at Shelsly on the 1st June and I have some plans for tidying up the car as it's a bit of a nail at the moment and hopefuly I can it up to Zen to sort my dicky 3rd gear issues.

A note to anyone thinking of stripping their car like I have.........don't remove your door rubbers, I now have a goldfish in my car for company.

That's a different style of door car there Rob, I like it, nice and simple. Mega money, or more sane than normal?

Oh I see, I have bad record with cone chicanes. I don't think I have ever made it through one without wiping out at least 50% of the cones.

They are your interlocking barrier-type cones and there's a hefty time penalty for clipping them.

Bit of car tidying this weekend as no racing but nothing worthy of a photo/write up.

I did notice I hadn't put a pic of my new engine yet so here it is with it's nice freshly painted inlet manifold.

My new individual coil packs fitted by Zen, a combination of these and new racing plugs fixed the misfire I suffered at Shelsley walsh.

My new fuel system.

Apart from more tidying up I have planned the car is all ready for next weekend.

Out of interest Rob, do you think your car is capable of mixing it with the WRC Impreza that's in the rally car class on the Epynt hillcimb?

Can you get your brother to give a shout as well please?

Errrrrrrr, they are about the pinnacle of point to point roofed cars and I can imagine the drivers pretty damn tasty to so I doubt it very much.

I will try as hard as possible though you can count on that .

Did it race last year?

I forwarded your mail to him but I think his car is still out of action I will get him to drop you a line.

Indeed they are the pinnacle, but if it's running in the rally car class it will be running at over 1230kg with fuel, on less grippy tyres (ie not proper slicks ?) and whilst producing prodigious torque it'll be giving away a fair amount of HP ie circa 140-160hp (though it should have the edge on throttle response)

Even tarmac rally tyres won't be anything like as good as my a15's due to compound.

So I will be 160bhp up, 140kgs lighter and on grippier rubber....

I knew this already but didn't want to put too much emphasis on things to my advantage .

It'll be interesting! WRC has a flat change box as well.
