I think we use the 2.5 so we can keep the power without compromising on the EU emissions, with a 2.0ltr the emissions would be much higher for the same bhp.

the 2.5 was done for emissions purposes in the UK

the JDM's are 2.0 because they need to be for WRC homologation and have extra bits and are lighter than UK models.

The 2.5 really is good though and driveability is much better aswell as fuel economy.

PMSL!

A quick look at PSM's website, adverts on here etc should tell you he can afford to buy his own model reports by sheer volume of cars he has coming in.

No complaints with my MY07 STi, loving the 2.5 litre engine. Loads more low down grunt than my old 2.0 litre which makes driving it easier on a day-to-day basis. There is less of the wait, wait, wait........GOGOGO than in my old car while you wait for the turbo to spool up, which at times was one of its charms, but it feels to me like a more flexible engine with little in the way of issues getting the power down even at low revs.

Just seen my name mentioned in this thread and would like to point out that I have not asked anyone about your methods Immy.

I’m quite aware of the way you might end up registering post 2006 cars without the correct EuroIV emissions test.

I have a 53 reg STI (UK) model - only mod is a stainless steel exhaust. No kidding, driving like my dad, I got 330 miles to one tank. I average 250 to 260 miles per tank. Normal is 280 miles, bad for me is 230 or so.

In around towns etc your looking at 200 miles to the tank. Try driving at 60mph more often. If you cruise at 80mph, the consumption is so much different (worse).

Thats me being sinsible of course!

Just saw this thread and took the opportunity to update my fuel consumption spread sheet.

MY06 STI + PD Springs + PPP BB + MY03 STI Center

over 15K miles I have averages 23.64 mpg.

I regularly see 300 miles from a tank; and when I fill up it takes 48-50L

Weird. I have an MY06 STi as well, completely standard, and I have never got more than 260 from a tank (all on the motorway doing 70mph). Usually I get 220, or less if it's all town driving (much much less).

And I don't drive it hard....

I have hawk eye 2.5l with PPP and regularly get around 300 miles per tank on 97-99 octane juice (mainly 99). Based on a mix of "steady" and some "fun" driving!!!!

As above. And i tried 60mph for better fuel economy, but peeps stare at me cos I'm on residential streets.

Round town i struggle to get 200 - 220 miles to a tank in my 05 2.0l STi PPP. On a nice easy run to the Nurburgring last week i got 375 miles. Which i was made up with. Granted i was going sooooo slow following my mates who were towing a trailer with 2 motorbikes on.

Whilst on the Ring i was using a 1/4 tank to a lap. If it was wet i'd get 2 laps a 1/4.

Go for the Spec D, you won't be disappointed.
At the risk of being completely flamed, parked up yesterday near a typical blue/big spoiiler/gold wheels STI & walking back to the car was so glad my g/f "persuaded" me to go for the spec D.
As for fuel consumption, I must habe a lead foot, I never see more than 180 miles from a tank of fuel

I think he is talking about a WRX, I've got a MY07 STi and the most I get is about 230 out of a tank.

I've a MY06 WRX and once managed to get 300 from a tank, pretty much all motorway driving at sub 70, never to be repeated. If PPP can give 300miles on a mixed driving I may be tempted to invest!
