Yes all sorted now, No more CEL.

I couldn't find anyone who did a socketed one. I can see why you ask, it does look a bit bodged, but the female sockets on the connector where I plugged the resistor into are tight so it holds it in firmly. I'll probably slip a condom over the connector now and fasten with a small cable-tie to make sure no water gets in there, but I doubt any would get to there anyway.

If anyone wants a resistor and can't easily find one drop me a PM with name/address and I'll pop one in post for ya as I have 3 spare.

thanks for the offer mate but your expert assistance will not be required.
I was looking for a plug in type as I want a fix more secure than pushing the resistor into the plug but want to retain the option to put everything back to standard if required. I know from my line of work how easily vibration can dislodge wires, plugs etc that you think are secure.

Oh well , it was worth a go.

Mine was just wedged into the connector and covered over with duct tape to hold in place and waterproof it.
Not a problem in 25k miles.

Not sure whether defi EGT gauge uses the standard EGT sensor or an aftermarket one with a higher temperature tolerance.

If it's the standard one then the only option you will have is to weld a boss onto the downpipe, although I'm not sure what the relevance of monitoring at that point is.

If it can use an aftermarket one with a higher temp tolerance then you can get a decat up-pipe with an EGT sensor boss already fitted and just use the standard mounting point for EGT on the up-pipe. You would have to find out what EGT sensor is compatible with the defi gauge and whether the gauge can perform at the higher temps which it will see on a decat up-pipe.

Personally I wouldn't bother with an EGT sensor unless you are really worried about melting one of the valves STi's don't have them anyway !!

I run Methanol Injection and I trust Bob Rawle to map the car to keep the valves intact LOL

yeah course m8, send us ur name and address and I'll pop one in the post to ya later this week.

EGT is, I believe, the first 'early warning' system of anything going wrong, but you'd have to set an alarm to notice it and stop in time.

EGT's are not really a problem unless you have modded the pants off the car !! even then as long as the Mapper has done his job I don't think there's a good reason to log the temps........only get rid of the CEL when you change the up-pipe LOL

my H&S up-pipe has the boss in it with the sensor. might just replace the sensor and see if that makes a difference if not I'll do the resistor.

The problem with using the standard EGT sensor in a decat up-pipe and leaving it wired into the ecu as in the OEM fitting are as follows

1. The heat readings will be too hot for the ecu temp ceiling and a CEL will be thrown anyway

2. The tip of the OEM EGT sensor isn't designed to take the higher temperatures and could possibly break off and end up whizzing through your turbo.

Aftermarket EGT sensors can be bought which will take the higher temperatures, but these aren't compatible with the OEM one, so can't be connected to the ecu loom via the socket as they will give the ecu readings it can't work with - probably resulting in a CEL.

The good news is that even when my car had the EGT CEL logged as current it hadn't retarded the ignition and didn't appear to have dropped back onto a compensation map when checked in DeltaDash, so it's just an annoying light. Downside of course is that when the light is on anyway you don't know if any other CEL's have been thrown - misfire detected, lambda fail etc....

Stalked - I'm assuming you have an up-pipe with the EGT boss blanked off with a bolt at the moment. I'll quite happily post you a resistor *free of charge* , will take you more time to get the black plastic cover off than it will to fit it. You can try it or just throw it away for the 13p it cost lol.

I'm a dafty, looking at the pics, I take it you just put the resistor into each of the 2 terminals and thats it? or am i missing somthing form the pics.

Why not solder the resistor in at the ECU end...

Yes, resistor wires into the two terminals on the female socket left when EGT sensor probe and wiring disconnected. All the resistor is doing is closing the loop which the sensor would complete and ensuring that the ecu sees the correct signal.

Or you could solder it into the ECU if you know where, socket is just easier.

when i did mine i removed the egt and cut plug off

then soldered the resistor to the wires from the plug,and shoved it back in to loom plug,saved trying to locate wires at ecu

Hi guys i went to maplins bought the resisiter fitted it as shown. I have restarted the engine some 20 times or more but the light remains !!
Does the ECU have to be cleared of the fault code ?

The CEL light should have gone out after 5 or 6 starts. The ECU doesn't need to be reset.
I would double check you have the correct resistor and it is fixed in the connector properly.
If all is OK then I would say you have the CEL for some other reason. This will mean getting the code checked out by the dealer/tuner.
