150 as its always been. when you call you get a message saying there is a 30 minute wait, i waited about 10 minutes. make sure you listen to the menue and press the buttons saying you are thinking of leaving Virgin

the woman i spoke to said they have all got these loyalty cards now, they get reductions off everything from breakdown cover to specsavers vouchers, she seemed happy with the take over. the staff are all the same as NTL

As I expected and the reason why the UK will never have a decent ability to download films and TV series legally, from a single source like iTunes.

They have already sold exclusive rights to broadcasters like Sky in the UK, there is no way they would then let people buy them as downloads.

I sympathise but whatever you do don't change to sky. It's sky who have engineered the withdrawal of these channels in a cynical attempt to get you to change to sky so that's the last thing you should do. By all means negotiate a discount with Virgin or pack it in completely but don't change to sky.

So this is only AFTER Bransons mob 'openly critisised ' Sky on NATIONAL RADIO? the only loser in this is the customer! but long term they will vote in the only way open to them.. by 'walking' Either to Sky or away from BOTH .

Got up this morning and low and behold - no Sky News.

Just spoken to Virgin media and they've agreed to upgrade me free of charge to the extra large tv package and the extra large broadband package free for the next 12 months. Only a year I know but I hardly watched Sky One and have freeview for Sky News lol

Feel like I've kinda won, but know where you guys are coming from

I think youl find sky news & sky sports news will be disapearing from free view in the not so distant future.

They replacing them with some other channels cant remember what they are but remember reading about them not so long ago. it was the day after id purchased my freeview but which was mainly for sky sports news.

Although soon were getting our telephone calls & internet through sky aswell as the satellite so with the money saved from phone calls & my internet charges il be able to get another reciever in my room .

Sky are wanting to create their own "brand" of DTT that'll be in direct competition with Freeview and have submitted their proposals to the regulator OFCOM, this could take a couple of years before it comes to fruition however, that's even if OFCOM gives the thumbs up.

As has been suggested this is Sky trying to squeeze the market, blocking out serious competitors, it's also why Sky bought into ITV to prevent Virgin getting control in that sector too.

Oh and contrary to popular belief, whilst Sky might have broadcast rights for many of the more popular shows, 24, Lost, Simpsons etc.. this doesn't stop companies setting up VoD over broadband for these shows. Which is one of the cards up Virgin's sleeve that they intend to play. With the broadband speeds available to cable customers and soon to be available VoD becomes a very viable alternative, another reason that Virgin didn't cave into Sky's price hikes.

Well you can register for a login, but you can't register a credit/debit card as the UK appears to the only country in the whole f'ing world not in the drop down list.

That is so short sighted. I'd be quite happy to pay a couple of quid or so for various things, but instead I'll have to obtain them by other means.

I THINK I HAVE JUST GOT A REALLY GOOD DEAL WITH VIRGIN..

just called them up and asked if i could keep my unlimited local and national calls on my land line as the price plans only show weekend and evening free calls.

i can have tv broadband and unlimited land line calls for £45 a month

before, i was paying over £70 a month for the same deal

looks like Virgin are trying to bend over backwards to keep us

That's one of the main reasons why I do download from the internet - all the great programmes from the US (Heroes, Lost, Prison Break, etc.) in glorious HD!

Yes, OK, a little bit of arsing about - but I can find and download just about any TV show that I want and have it watchable in less than 10mins, so not too bad....

Had a Heroes, Prison Break, Lost fest last night - with all of this week's episodes.

I got rid of NTL before Christmas.

SkyHD and Sky+ far superior in content and functionality than the Telewest/NTL system
For unlimited landline calls SkyTalk is £10 a month cheaper than NTL.
NTL was £17.99 for 2meg broadband, Sky is £10 for upto 16meg (Getting 10meg and it's more stable than NTL)

Virgin is now offering all sorts of deals to keep customers, if they had offered good deals, competative systems and decent customer service in the first place then they wouldn't be in the mess they are in.

Cheers

Anyone else phoned Virginmedia and asked for a reduction in their monthly fees, and were they succesful? Will do the same myself if it's worth a go.

Only realised the situation last night when I went to tune in to Lost
