Personally, I'd ban passengers, far more likely to distract you than a mobile, hot dog, coke and a ciggie... not simultaneously, like...

In some ways I'd welcome some sort of approval for in-car stuff but I would NOT trust beaurocrats to set the standards properly.

good valid point, Then why not ban the use of screenwash cause your vision is impaired for a second or two till the wipers clear it? theres loads of if`s and but`s for all of it, but personally i cant see what makes smoking and driving dangerous

like i said in another post just where does all of this PC stuff end?

Are you actually taking your name? What's not to believe? Smoking and/or wearing high heels WILL cut down on the ability to control a vehicle, especially in the case of an emergency.

And none of your insulting graphics will change theat, so get over it.

You're on the phone, something happens in front of you and you need full control, you can drop the phone.

You're smoking a ***, something happens in front of you and you need full control, you can't drop the *** without setting fire to your car. So you're trying to steer, change gear and keep hold of a flimsy incendiary device to avoid being burnt.

Which is more dangerous? It's so obvious I'm incredulous anyone can defend it.

Then there's the unpleasant ash out of the window as obviously no cars fit ashtrays anymore . Or more likely people know how unpleasant cars full of stale ash and butts are so selfishly infect it on everyone else instead. Plus the danger of throwing burning butts **** out of the window in the path of motorbikes with open visors or jackets. Or lit butts getting wedged in the front of following cars. I could go on and on (oh I have......) Ban it

Ban women from driving in high heels?? Are you on drugs? No way should we do anything to stop women wearing high heels, so what if a few of them have crashes, it's so worth it

why the need to drop it? if you think its a gift from god to be able to do these things with a *** in you hand it really shows how much you know, any smoker could do any of those things while with his eyes closed while driving, its no great feat

There's a big difference between 'making progress via lane 2', and 'undertaking'....

The ******* that sit on your rear bumper, swerve into the middle to try and gain 15 metres of road should be dragged from their cars and shot on the hard shoulder.

no its not, theres absolutly no concentration going into smoking at all, its not like having a conversation on a phone where you actually do need to concentrate

theres a massive diffrence between using a phone whilist driving and driving while smoking

could try flicking it out the window, but that might be deemed as dangerous by some as you wont have your two hands on the wheel at the ten to two position lolz

It's a well known fact that everyone can handle their vehicle whist doing any of the things mentioned plus shave,do their makeup, read a map, peel an orange & pour tea from a flask whilst holding the steering with their knees (I saw a white van man doing this). And no one has had an accident as a result of doing any of these things. So of course it's safe.

But would any of you do any of the things mentioned whist taking your test?

No?

Oh I wonder why?

Perhaps because it's not such a good idea when you are driving.

In my unbiased opinion I believe smoking whilst driving is nowhere near as bad as using a phone. As previously mentioned the actual smoking takes no concentration at all. Its the obtaining/lighting cig that is the dangerous bit. I have previously lit cigs for mates while they were driving and handed it over to avoid any mishaps.

Like ACID says where do you draw the line ? Having a handsfree phone conversation takes away your concentration apparently. What about talking to a passenger, listening to your favourite music, listening to sat nav instructions etc. etc. It would get ridicolous !

Is there an ACME device that does this?
If so, what's it called?
