Have you clicked the Full width option in the Edit options in User CP???
It's the very last option to check...
It messes up the display a bit as banners etc are designed for the limited size..... but hey.. it gives you full screen

Another trick is to get Mozilla and Adblock...
You can then right-click
anything you want to not see and Bingo.. it's gone...
So all those annoying Zoints & report icons, banners... etc etc you don't want cluttering up the place...are gone..
