Using the handbrake on a RWD car is most certainly the fastest way to get around a very tight hairpin (for tight: read turning circle on a point)

If it wasn't so, then autotesters wouldn't do it. Take a look here ( YouTube - Gordon Holmes Autotesting a Westfield ) for a very competent autotester demonstrating very capable use of the handbrake. If any keyboard warriors here think they could beat this without using the handbrake, I'm more than happy to put them to the test

Of course, this shouldn't be done on public roads! But there are hundreds of autotests up and down the country every year so no excuse not to do it somewhere safe!

As for the scoob question, cars equipped with DCCD can be "handbraked", as they have a switch which opens the diff. Non-DCCD equipped scoobies should not be handbraked, as it will cause damage to the centre diff.
