The boxter is a quick good handling car my in law has one for a weekend toy but have yet to go up against him in my sti. Both standard cars so it will be down to the driver in this case.

Its amazing my first visit back to this site in a few years and things have not changed.
What is about my "car is faster than yours" and that a Boxster is not a real Porsche , if only half the people who made the daft comments had actually driven one on the road let alone on a track they may be converts.
I had 3 Scoobys and went to a few track days with Scoobynet and had a great time, but times change and I now have Boxster S.
Have done 14 track days in the last 20 months in it and how well it handles on track still amazes me.
The Scooby was a great car but could handle the 35,000 miles a year I do the Porker and the running costs are tiny in comparison.
If you really think you can out run a poor mans Porker bring it to the track and see, try Snetterton on the 24th with Loading....
Flame suit on !!!

Am i right in thinking that the Boxster (soft-top) as it doesn't have a roof would therefore need more strengthening around the cockpit than a roofed car?. How much do these things actually weigh ? I would assume a 2 seater soft-top would actually weigh close to what a 5 seater scoob does????.
If i was given a boxster, i'd give it to the mrs, she liikes them. Personally I wouldn't want people pulling up next to me and asking how much a short-back and sides would cost, nor assuming i was gay. Come on, its a pretty gay car . I bet the no.1 album played in boxsters is The Scissor Sisters or Elton John....

Sorry m8, "Had" several boxsters, if my scoob is one of the least quick/desireable i would assume most newage and most special editions would do the same only faster.
Ok its winter so roads at this time of year are wet and slippery, why would a rwd car overtake on a bend when its going to be less-able to put the power down than a 4wd?.

I never said in the wet in the dry a boxster imho would out corner simply due to the extra grip its big fat tyres allow.
anyway i'm not saying a Subaru is slower (ok maybe tongue in cheek) but a Boxster is not a slow car thats all

I wouldn't say it was slow, never have done. If you start weighing up the pro's and cons between a scoob and a boxster the scoob would have very little negative about it.

As a practical point to point performance car and especially when modified very little will touch a turbocharged awd rally replica such as a Scoob or an Evo, Boxster owners will admit they will get trounced at the lights. but enjoyable driving is more than performance and outright grip. Its the sense of occasion, engine note (which is superb in a Boxster) handling finesse and as for the brakes - Wow.
bang for the buck you will never beet a Subaru, but a Boxster is a lot more than that.

all depends on the driver. A scoob in th ewet will still lose it with a idiot chave driving it. He will put too much faith in the 4x4 system and when it goes him and his Burberry cap will part for good.

You can't assume all boxster owners are upright intelligent members of the community that wouldn't dream of driving a little wrecklessly, in the same manner you can't assume all scoob drivers are chavs and always drive like loon's.

Using... Car Stats - Calculator
250BHP (94WRX Standard except z4 ECU, Backbox and Apexi panel filter, i assume this is about right) and weight of around 1250kg as stated for similar models gives a power/weight ratio of 203bhp per tonne.
Looking through the rwd listings under boxster there are a few like the "S" which on paper appears close performance wise to mine. Considering the S is 1300kg (200bhp per tonne) and rear wheel drive i would say its probably not as easy to throw into conrners. The majority of boxters though appear inferior.....
A couple of the MK2's appear on paper superior, but then there are many models of the Impreza under the 4wd section with a far superior bhp/tonne.
Its already been said in the wet (and we do live in the UK so thats pretty often) a boxster would suffer to get the power down and as far as stats go it looks like there's not really much argument .

The S2 is a 3.0 litre 16 valve
The turbo is a 2.5 litre 8 valve
They never made a 944 3.0 litre 16 valve S2 turbo.
Even the 3.0 litre 968 turbo had an 8 valve head.

Statistically Porsche owners put better tyres on there car - so they have better grip in the wet.
I saw a thread on hear the other day about LingLong tyres

And rear wheel drivers tend to understand the limits of their cars more.
I reccon more cheap end (so 60% of the market) subaru owners would much rather buy a LED singing crap style thing to glue on to their dash than get good tyres. Seen so many still on the Jap originals that must be a real problem in the wet over here.

Excellent point about the tyres, I'd be very surprised if even 1 percent of Impreza owners here have ever even thought about running their cars on winter tyres.
That's why we see dozens of threads on here about how ****e their cars are in the snow and ice. 'Pull the ABS fuse'- no mate, try running your car on appropriate rubber and modulating your right foot every now and again.

I will give you the same reply as the other poster.
Check your facts before you start telling me what I have in my garage.
A little surprised that you have posted this as from earlier Porsche topics, it appeared you knew what you were talking about.

I am not able to do digital photography, nip over to TIPEC or 968 and ask the question I am sure there will be plenty of people that will put you right.
Before you do and find out you are wrong, I suggest you read what my original post actually says.
I am happy to accept your apology by PM.

The 944 Turbo Cab is a 2.5 litre 8 valve....the same one that is in my car.
I suggest you go searching a bit more.
What engine and car do you think you have before I laugh some more?
