Spoke to Paul who advised that as long as its not doing it on load its fine, and quite common for my age of car (V4 Type R)

Its when it does it under full load you need to worry.
Yeh thats what Paul said to me aswell. Mine never does it under load but when cruising at about 4500rpm I get knock readings of about 60-70 and the cel flashes.

Seems a lot of us have a knock problem when cruising or coasting down. Have you looked at your readings on the graph when it happens? Mine look like an instantaneous large spike i.e. a huge vertical line with no width to it at all.

Interesting....I've seen alot of factory knock indication at the bottom left of the map on my car, especially when it is warming up for some reason. Its all off boost and there is no other indication of knock so its not det, but something vibrating at the right frequency and intensity to trigger it.

And nothing corresponds on the knocklink; when its real det you see an indication from both. The IAM is permanently on 16 and no correction on the fine control map, so although there is a knock indic, the ECU seems to filter it.

That would be a candidate, but its not audible and the engine looked nice when I put it back together (cross hatching evident on bores etc). Standard cast internals as well. Be interested to see if you see anything similar (you got something in the post).
