There's often a childish dislike of 'authority' or being 'hassled' by a copper by many people. Individuals when challenged then come across negatively and hence any interaction with a copper wont leave a good taste. Blame the coppers if you must but I think the original poster shows more maturity here!

Personally I have had 95% good interaction with coppers but that is being increasingly ruined by their mangement and the government's interference/targets and the 'nick 'em all' brainless training methods. I am also terrified by the robotic 'New School' type younger coppers I've met here, but thankfully never in person...yet.

Oh - like the nice policeman who's first line to me was "What are you doing here then you ****"

or the other one who stopped me for speeding and his opening gambit was (Jock **** hearing my English Accent) "Don't you have speed limits where you come from".

I find the younger coppers to be slightly better than the old pigs !

If one spoke to me like that I would be absolutely gobsmacked, and hopefully so would his Chief Con when he found me on his doorstep

I was once asked if I though I was 'Roger Clarke' and that kind of sarcy approach is fine by me; you dont expect a pat on the back do you, all the time!

It's a thankless task is it? Did they join up thinking "OOh I'll get thanked all the time in this job" ?

Let me think, the last time I was thanked at work was back in ...............

If I'd been black and the other example was used the pig would have been sacked too !

But it's OK for a sweaty sock pig **** to racially abuse a white Englishman .

And least when they do it without the protection of their uniforms you can smack the smug ******* - which is of course why the don't .

just so petty.... the times you meet a nice one are forgotten, but the bad ones stick in your mind. remeber getting 50 questions about drinking in the street when I was younger as I carried a crate of beel along with other bads of shopping back ot my car which was parked in the super market car park, gettin told rear tints are illegal (to which i did get an appology for being wrong after he held me for 15 minsutes reading through a law manual he had in his car....... even having my rear for light on...wait for it..... in fog! (and not on the motorway, just a b road before anyone guesses)

X3ONGO,

Trouble is, too many of us remember the days when there were police to be seen on the streets who were expected to use their common sense and act accordingly instead of having to think of all the paperwork they have to do in order to fulfil the next target. We also remember when police stations were always manned 24/7 and if you reported a problem they would be there to deal with it quickly instead of leaving it for hours or even a day or so and then trying to get you to believe that nothing more can be done anyway!

The generally law abiding person used to expect support from them in the case of attack by a felon rather than being more likely to be hauled up before court if you have the temerity to defend yourself!

Can you wonder at the fall in respect for them from the public? I have always respected them and what they do personally but find it disappointing to see how things are going now.

Les
