poss group buy on gauges
It's definitely a bad move having them hooked up to a sandwich plate on the oil filter.
WHY IS THIS???
THE DEFI's are connected this way???
I'm a bit confused.....
Getting to the sender at no.3 is not easy for me...
Anyone tell me why??
Cheers

Don't know the prosports myself (until I get them that is) but these are the same technology as the 'expensive electrical ones' - stepper motors acting on a signal from an electrical sender.
I think I posted this somewhere else, but basically if you're that bothered about your oil temp and pressure that you want the hassle of installing gauges, cluttering up your dash and having to look at them the whole time while you're driving, you also want to use the best, most representative signal to feed your gauges. You will not learn anything important from the pressure and temperature of the oil sitting in the sump. Or at least not until all your oil has already dropped all over the road.
Of course, it depends what you are getting the gauges for. If you just want them to tart up your interior then yes, a sandwich plate is fine. It'll make the needles move around. It's not that sandwich plates are no good. Some cars have the oil filter in a more useful location for measuring oil temp and pressure. On Imprezas it's about the lowest part of the whole engine.
Fitting a sandwich plate I would say is MORE hassle than finding the #3 bung and the pressureswitch.
Defis can be connected any way AFAIK. There's no rule that says they have to be connected with a sandwich plate.

Is the #3 bung the only ( apart from the boost) connection or do you need two different for oil temp and pressure??
Just want to know before I order....
Thanks again

Dont worry mate, we're all in the same boat, when it comes to fitting them we'll start up a thread where we can post pics and tips, an help each other out on getting them installed, maybe someone might be nice enough to do a step-by-step guide if they're generous enough

Now to find a top pod that matches the dash, not a plasic one....
Well I've never done it all before, but I'll try and post up a walkthrough once I have. It'll basically be like this:
1. Take off intercooler and alternator.
2. Remove plug above #3 cylinder (need the right size tool, can't remember whether it's an allen plug or a torx?) and replace with adapter and oil temp sender
3. Remove pressure switch from behind alternator and replace with remote adapter and oil pressure sender.
4. Tee into a vacuum line off the inlet manifold with the boost pressure sender.
5. Run the power and signal wiring for the three senders through into the back of the dash, probably where the throttle cable comes through will do.
6. Find a switched 12v and illumination supply from in the dash. These SHOULD suffice for both the senders and the gauges.
7. Fit the gauges where you want them and wire up.
8. Have a cup of tea.
Personally, I'll probably go for a dash top pod. Although that opening ceremony looks bloody annoying, it's more annoying to have to keep looking down because your gauges aren't in your line of sight in the heat of battle! I may well have a crack at taking them apart and changing the colour of the LEDs. At a guess they're simply two-colour LEDs that switch from red to white, so they can probably be changed with a bit of soldering for green/white, or green/red.
Nick has also now offered not only 3-gauge DIN plates at £8, but also has a few dash centre pods for 60mm gauges which aren't much good to us, but maybe useful for other Scoobynetters. It seems like he's got a lot of wares, and is willing to offer a good discount on just about everything, so if there's any extra accessories you want, best thing is for individuals to contact him directly and see what he can do to tie in with this group buy.
BTW Scott, the sandwich plate is physically simpler - but I'd say a lot more messy, because you'd have to change the oil at the same time. By doing it the 'proper' way, you're working on top of the engine rather than underneath it.

Im thinking of getting a voltage gauge to put in the triple pod, and mounting the boost gauge at the bottom of the A pillar or ontop of the steering rack, will contact Danny and see what kind of discount he can tie in
LOL I'm just selling my corner pod and Autometer boost gauge because I'm getting these three.
If I manage to get it sorted and change the illumination, I'll post up a how-to. How hard can it be? As long as I can get the gauges opened up that is.

Im poo at soldering, will you be offering your services to others :P Maybe even with a small charge if theycome out well?
Not sure how easy the gauges will be to open up, i've tried to open up a Greddy gauge before and it was impossible

LOL well I hadn't been planning to go into the guage modifying business, mainly because if I mess up my own ones it's only me that'll be out of pocket. We'll see how it goes. If it turns out that it's easy to do and there's no chance of my wrecking other people's stuff, maybe I'll think about it!

Hi,
Different question - does anyone have first-hand experience of the Prosport oil pressure gauge? I'm wanting to know if it responds pretty much instantaneously with engine revs ie when you blip throttle from idle. Reason is for detection of oil surge, which can be brief (but disasterous) on a racetrack corner. Old-style capillary gauges respond instantly, as do the expensive electrical ones, anyone know about the Prosports?
cheers
Andy

A couple of useful links for those fitting the gauges
Chiark: Scooby Gauges the cheap-ish way

The 2nd link isn't working right now. But it was a pictorial guide from this guy who fitted them in an RB5.

got sent some more info on the gauges
The gauge package will come with both adaptors that can cater for both 1/8 or 1/4 NTP threads. It will come with 2 seperate pieces.
the gauge set has everything required to be operational (execept for the oil filter sandwich adaptor). Mounting, sensors, wirings, fittings are all included.
also had some pod pics sent to me

We going for the top bin mount or the din mount then guys?
Jake are those actual Defi gauges, because it looks like theres a control unit where the cup holder normally is?
Also they look to be 60mm? Are we getting 52mm or 60mm?

little bit of bad news for some,
due to the great response the group buy has had, danny is running out of stock lol
there for the orders are being processed by the way people paid, this means there will be around a weeks delay on the newer orders as he waits for more supplies to come in,
the following people effected by this are:
Charlie Abercrombie
Nick Read
Audrey Gillian
James Neil
and obviously any one ordering from now on
sorry guys
