That is a good point mate, and you are probably right enough, the CTR is probably raw enough for your average Joe's driving ability, so no it would not be a factor to most people, but it has been well documented that the CTR does understeer and the steering feel is poor, but for the people like myself i do find this an issue, so as i stated an LSD would be a welcome addition, in saying that wait and see what the new CTR will be like, steering issues may well be sorted.

LSD should only be in the region of £500-800, or ABP do switchable traction control for it to!

Quaife LSD is £450+VAT.. then approx £350+VAT labour involved to fit, wouldnt bother with the Racelogic traccy control coming in at over a £1000 fitted, just control your right foot.

Wonder what Hondata are going to fetch for the new 'fly-by-wire' jobby?

Dont do it the new civic ctr is a crock of SH£T, Ive worked for honda for 9 years and cant remember a worst put together piece of crap.
Its made from cheap plastics has loads of rattles and elecrtical probs. And a list of reworks as long as your arm, and thats only on the standard car.
Personaly I'm dreading the launch of the ctr as ctr drivers tend to be a bit more pernickity than joe public so no doubt they'll be banging down my door with things like I've got a rattle from alover my car please fix it.

To others; as I said, im a massive Honda fan but this car doesnt seem to cut the mustard for me. Regarding the LSD, you might not miss it bacause you might not know you are missing it! They really work, and yes ok you can retrofit one but id expect one for over £20k!

Id take a DC5 over it anyday. Ok its not a UK car, but that has never put me off.

looks like a Civic Saloon rather than the hatchback. Didn't know they did a type-r version of that one. May be its for the JDM.

Saw autoexpress did a comparison between the Golf and new CTR. Didn't get to drive it but the shots of the interior looked good.

I've decided I won't be parting with any of my cash for one. I just can't see it being better then an ST and I can get the ST3 alot cheaper than the CTR.

Honda are nuts, they are totally going away from what Type-R stood for. Whatever happened to the "yeah and we even lightened the windscreen and got rid of soundproofing to save weight vibe?" I'd rather have a 0 - 60 of 5 and half seconds than a bloody Sat-Nav and a place to stick curling tongs

I can't see it selling as well as the mark 2 because that few thousand quid more puts it into a bracket where the competition is serious. When they were £16k it was just that bit cheaper than the competition.


Be interested to see how they **** up the follow up to the S2000 and NSX too......What they need is a consortium of petrolheads to get them back on track.

got my name down for an extended test drive (day or two) in a couple of weeks when my honda dealer get the demo model.. think it will be a GT, but should be interesting to see how it compares to my 2004 CTR, personally not keen on the looks (from photos), but will wait to have a go in one before I make an opinion on it..

haven't they shortened the gearing and final drive to compensate for the lower power to weight ratio thus making the figures the same as the old one?

Hi Dark blue, I wasn't reffering to work I have done on the latest type r. Just all the rectification work I've carried out on the new civic in general in 3 and 5 door models. The type r is made by the same people in the same factory and the one I test drove at the factory wasn't ant diff in build quality.
In short i think there's going to be a lot of dissapointed people out there.

My Civic CDTI feels like it is made from granite. Not a single rattle, sweak, electrical problem....in fact no problems at all. I also think the materials are of a very high quality. You won't find a car this well built and this will equipped for the same price with any other manufacturer. Only a fool tells people not to buy the car he helps manufacture - I wonder if you are really telling the truth.

Yep I find it hard to believe for Honda, would doubt they would release anything with more than the usual couple of unavoidable (not a very Japanese statement that!) faults.

Yes it is. The 2.2 is not the fastest diesel around, but it is very smooth. I think it is down to the lower than normal compression ratio that Honda has chosen. Check this out for specification for £19,400

It is just one of those cars that has been really well thought out. Every time you drive it you think to yourself "isn't that a good idea" or "that works really well". The 2.2 doesn't give best the best economy in it's class, but I average 55mpg trundling about so that is just fine for me

Edited to say I also have little extras that the likes of BMW charge a fortune for like a spare wheel and a cargo net and quality mats etc. Incredible value

Hi Blueblaster I dont manufacture the cars I have to keep them on the road after people buy them. I take it you have had your eps recall done? your boot also opens 1st time when you want it? and your fuel flap release works your rear shockys dont knock? and your windscreen doesnt creak? you dont go through gallons of oil cause your turbo works fine?
The point I was making was the fact that in the 9 years I've worked on hondas this is the worst for rectifaction work.

Blue - Astra was similar (although not so well known for reliability but mine's been faultless).

Things like auto lights, lumbar adjust, proper computer, adustable lashing hooks, etc, etc, all standard.

I do like the Civic though, and the diesel has the torque lacking in the CTR.

No EPS recall, boot fine, shocks fine, no creaks, no oil required in 6000 miles although I admit the remote filler cap did need adjusting. Maybe it was just the early cars that needed work? Actually, I also must admit that the boot sometimes doesn't shut quite right but it is only occasionally and will be sorted at the service. No need to put it in just for that - the catch just needs adjusting

Don't confuse the diesel with a driver's car. It is too nose heavy and set up for comfort. I never feel the urge to hurl is around which is probably just as well as it doesn't do that sort of thing like a proper sports car does.

I thought the S2000 had too many inherernt faults - wasnt impressed with that aspect of it.

Off topic, but the following are VERY common and often expensive. Some were fixed on later revisions.

Corroded suspension bushes (extremely expensive)
Corroding alloy wheels
Siezing rear callipers
Creaking rear hub nuts
Torn roof by side windows
Plastic rear screen cracks
MAP sensor doesn't cope with heat soak and bounds down the road - hesitates etc
Remote boot open works randomly

Blueblaster, you mention how well thought out the new Civic is but doesn't that rear spoiler obscuring your vision get on your **** ?

Whoever signed that off, clearly didn't check the rear view mirror...........

It is no worse than an Impreza/Evo/Accord Type-R/Cosworth rear wing. I would probably have ordered a rear windscreen wiper if it had been an option although it would have spoiled the clean lines.

as for the new CTR power - everyone seems to be looking at peak power and also the power to weight ratio - The new engine has been tuned to deliver peak power lower in the rev range and over an extended period. So on paper people say its not as quick cos its only got the same power etc - however the new CTR engine is in a more useable state of tune and in regular day to day driving I would specultae that its is just as quick.

The new Civic I went in had really bad rear view, so with a spoiler its going to be VVV bad. The dash is also quite long and you cant see the bonnet.
