All the cars I've run over the last few years have run more smoothly and with better MPG on the higher octane fuel.

And that includes many "ordinary" cars as well.

Most modern petrol cars will have ecu's sophisticated enough to run more advance on higher octane fuels.

Even the base 1.6 bmw is set up by default for 98 ron, so will be running less advance on 95

 

Not quite sure why but the name 'tomcat' that all the rover/mg ***** like to call the turbo'd rover coupe strikes me as very comical.

A military sounding development name given by a bunch of now unemployed thicko midlanders to sex up what is in actual fact an utter crock of ****e. Now used by the pathetic owners in an attempt to make a 'rover roupe' somehow sound better.
Better to call a spade a spade or in the case of the rover coupe a turd a turd.

I'll preempt any attempted spade calling by getting mine in first- anyone who disagrees is a tw@t.

 

i stick 10 quid of V-Power in all the time - admitteldy a few times a week - th ereason i do this is i end up driving about if i have more than a qtr of a tank and as a result spend more money on fuel.

Had to laugh last night.
While filling up at my local shell garage a rice rocket Impreza pulled in and started filling up opposite.

You know the sort of thing exhaust big enough to house a family in, tea tray spoiler and wheels the size of the London eye - you have to laugh!

I only noticed when he replaced the nozzle that he had only put in £40 worth of Vpower.

I'm sure that will enable him to use all of the horsepower available from his 2.0l turbocharged poor mans rally rep....

I think it depends on how you look at it and what you drive. if i gave a toss i wonder just how often scoob drivers are looked at like this.

I remember it being around 1.19 a gallon back in 1980 and filling up my Suzuki TS50 ER (derestricted of course!) and getting 100+mpg

If he was 18 then his insurance will be exorbitant and, chances are, he doesn't earn shed loads of money. We can't all be super high earning upon leaving school.

When I was 18 I was driving a 1974 Ford Escort 1300XL. A shed by anyones standards, but my pride and joy at the time. It gave me the freedom to drive wherever I wanted - as long as I could afford the petrol.

Even now, despite earning decent money, I still find myself financially embarrassed occasionally and will put £5 or £10 in my Scoob.

 

I put £1.89 in my 1973 Morris Marina to get home once.

when i 1st ever used otpimax about 5yr ago now in my cavi gsi 2000 it did make it more responsive but the 2nd time i used it i didnt notice anything, i always use vpower for 1 i dont pay for my fuel and 2 its cleaner.

 

There used to be the 'Tomcat Turbo' race series in the mid ninties... iirc Rover were thinking of naming the coupe the 'Tomcat' but opted otherwise due to the insurance shooting up or something of the like...

The name stuck and to be named after an F14 Tomcat fighter jet isn't a bad thing

It's not uncommon for planes and cars to share similar names

I remember my old nackered nova (my first car at 17), driving into the petrol station at putting £2.50 in it, and being the proudest guy in the world with my 1.2i
The guy is probably young and to him that car will be so special, it always makes me smile when you see a young lad in a car like that looking so proud, it brings back a few memorys

I was told by some pathetic losers over on the mgrover.org website that it was the development name of the car. As there were some *********** over there who actually worked for rover I took their comments at face value.

When I think about it though those assmunches are living in some sort of alternate reality where rover made the best cars in the world and were killed off by unpatriotic idiots who prefer German rubbish so I guess it could have been another product of their fertile imaginations.
