Does anyone have a PPG 5 speed, fitted to their car?

Hi One of our members Deani-age has jusy had his gearbox built with a ppg gearset, was built by paul at Zen and it is fantastic. Its the semi hiliptical one and uses the same ratios ( type ra ) 1-4 and a longer 5th which now means he can go faster at the top end and fast as hell through the gears !!!!
Cost around £2300 for the gear set plus the labour, think the total was around £3500.
Having diven it there is no real noticable noise compared to a standard gearbox but it will hold 700bhp/650flb so is easily strong enough for everydau use !!!
Paul at Zen runs the same setup in his drag car so it must be good
hope tis healps

Just spoke to someone at Zen
The cost for the kit and rebuild is working out to (including VAT ) £2500
With regard to groupl buy, he said there will be no difference to talk about
Should be placing my order today.

You won't regret the purchase cookstar.
I've read of problems and failures of some 6 speed boxes, but of course you don't know their history, but i'd still be wondering if i had a 6 speed, whether it would still stand up to the power level, so PPG has been one of my better choices so far.

My new neighbour is former Ford Motorsport / Gordon Spooner Engineering chief engineer with experience in all that is WRC .
He has rebuilt gearboxes using Quaife internals so I've asked him for a price !
I'll let you know what he comes up with .

It looks as if some clairification is required...
The PPG synchro boxes are NOT dog engagement gearboxes, they change gear in the exact same way as the factory 5 speed does. They can be quite noisey with the straight cut gears, or slightly noisier than stock with the semi helical gears. Although 5th gear is standard so no noisier than stock.
As for gear kits offered by other manufacturers, there is a good reason that PPG kits are as popular as they are. They have good parts backup, unlike some companies that will only manufacture spares parts on a 3 month schedule!
The 6 speed option is open to everyone, but you don't really know what you're getting, and there have been more than a few instances of 6 speeds needing rebuilds due to synchros, forks and other related issues. It of course adds another 30kg to your car too, which some people feel is too much to bear!
If someone here would like to give the Quaife kits a long term test before any "group buys" of a £2k product kick off, I would be happy to build the box for them!
