Hi all.. First post so be gentle......
I'm thinking of fitting one of the Kenwood units to my 2004 wrx (2004/2005 interior) n the next few weeks .

Is there anything I should be aware of when fitting? Or is it a direct to centre the cage?

Cheers

Fitting is very easy mate. It is a direct replacement for the OE one, the only thing you need is the ISO harness for the connections (available from any Halfords or ICE retailer). Took me about 20 mins from start to finish. The worst part is removing the plastic surround without damaging it.

Take your time as it scratches very easily so avoid prising it off with a screwdriver etc.

There is a handy link somewhere with instructions to removing the facia. Will see if I can find it for you.

Yes, be aware that Kenwood's new range will be out in the UK within a few weeks and includes double DIN units with USB2, full speed iPod control and even one with built in Garmin sat nav......

They are not supposed to. There is a wire that is supposed to be connected to the handbrake so you can only watch DVD's when Stationary.

Although if you don't connect the wire it works all the time. Just be careful that the cops don't see it on whilst driving.

Was that to get it to work at all, or just when moving?

The wire that links to the handbrake - is this seperate from the wiring for the headunit, or is it in that socket it all plugs into?

Its amongst the wires coming from the h/u(clearly marked handbrake btw)

unconnected everything worked bar the DVD...but when earthed the DVD worked as well, stationary or moving

I've just ordered one of these. Can't wait to get it. Was it fiddley changing the holes in the brackets to get it to fit flush Jon?

It only needs doing if you're really ultra fussy....Like moi is

Fit it first and see if you're happy with it,if not you just have to elongate the holes in the cage a litte bit. You'll see what I mean when you have it all apart

Just had fitted the 6029 with bluetooth, sat nav,I-pod and changer- What a great bit of kit- Only one problem can't get the contacts/phone book to transfer to the car bluetooth unit from my phones-Samsung D500 and Z-400. I've contacted both Samsung and Kenwood and tried what they suggested but can't get it work- Anyone had the same problem and how did you resolve it-or didn't you!!

I fitted mine in today and must say that I'm really pleased with it. It sticks out a bit more than Elmers (that could be a good thing though ) because once I had all those cables stuffed in behind it I didn't want to take it back out to alter the brackets. I'll put some pics up tomorrow. The bloke I got it from is a big seller on Ebay and very helpful. £412, delivered within 24hrs and extremely well packaged.

I've got the ddx-6029 - no you cant change the colour - in fact thats one of the downsides of it for me in that the user interface is very basic, only change the wallpaper which is carp. A big missed opportunity imo.
The other disadvantage is ipod control with the add on is also poor. no search facility or jump to through the touch screen although slight easier with the remote.
Plus sides though - add on sat nav / tmc available - excellent but pricey.
Good bluetooth add on available and very reasonable price..

The low speed iPod control is a bit of a downer, but for the price they are an excellent bit of kit! Also, you may think the G520 sat nav add on for te Kenwood is pricey, but if you compare it to the highway robbery of the clunky Alpine version, they're giving it away, AND it's a Garmin powered unit with free updates!!

Hope you bolted that in well. Else the rate you accelerate it could end up in the boot!

Oooops. I have'nt seen you lately or cut you up in any way have I?
Is it not time you came along to a local get together in Northampton?

I fitted an Ipod cradle/charger in my car via the cd changer plug and it does a good job. You can't control it through the headunit though, but having it stuck on the dash makes it easy to select the tracks straight from the Ipod. The only downside being that the cradle is on display even if you take out the Ipod, thus making it more of a temptation to break into I suppose. All the above from the Autoleads range.
