This has been discussed to death on here and it's very common. Widely accepted to be down to the frame-less windows. Only seems to do it with a strongish crosswind however..

I've always had the 'buzz' at 110mph or over. Jumped out of my skin the first time it did it. I never suspected the mirror. I reckon it's the underbonnet soundproofing felt. The top layer of it comes off and flaps about all round the edges. I've just glued it back on so I'll see if that fixes it. Although of course I've no way to test it until I go to Germany later in the year LOL.

No, no, no, I tell ya it's to do with the frameless door windows, in particular when there's a side wind..
One way or another I have eliminated all the other suggestions (mirror sticker/scoop undertray/bonnet rubbers etc).

could be unequal pressure in the cabin compared to outside.
my windows start to peel open at the top if i go much above 160mph.
p.s i'm eleventy foot ten etc.(and my dad is b.a baracas )

I notice that the STi8 has little flaps underneath the car unlike my STi7 which doesn't do this. Could they be the cause ??? Somebody try taking them off and see if it cures it. They could be vibrating in the airflow due to air disturbance from the front of the car.

My MY06WRX does the same thing - sometimes from 90mph upwards. It's very annoying. My local dealer changed the seals around the drivers window but this hasn't helped. The noise disappears when the window is dropped just a fraction which leads me to believe it's related to the wind coming up over the wing mirror and hitting the driver's window.

Mine was definitely the seals, the hardest part was working out where the noise was coming from - took me ages to figure it out, if you do a search for 'noise' on here there are loads of threads offering different solutions.

My mates Toyota something or over company car makes that type of noise at 85mph. You can imagine how annoying it would be on the motorway!!
Took it to the garage and they said they can't test to see whether they've fixed the problem. After 3 attempts I think he's given up.

Martx are u intrigued by Mart360's confidence. He's obviously an undercover boy in blue who's paid to watch these forums and is one of the lucky ones who's been given a scoob to try to keep up with us! Either that or he lives in Germany /Middle east or Africa where he's spot on
In all seriousness - and on topic - I have that wonderful noise at 120mph+ on my 2002 WRX. I have just upgraded to an STI and have yet to test this given the limited opportunity to travel at these speeds. I think of it as a reassuring SLOW DOWN YOU IDIOT whisper in the ear - Subaru should patent it as such - At 120mph+ you don't have too much time to try to work out where it's coming from, but it's definitely the front. I thought it was the cumulative effect of the airflow through the engine bay incl scoop.

I am neither i,m afraid, i live and work in the uk, although i do travel to germany As part of my job
Each of our cars is tested to 160kmh on our rolling road

I think it's supposed to be PMSL. Doesn't make sense as PSML which would be '**** Self My Laughing' - ROFLMAO
On a more topical note though, gluing the edges of my underbonnet liner has definitely cured the buzz. So much for it being the windows then. I think the fact that everyone thinks it's this and it's that, yet no-one else has actually been able to fix the buzzing problem, may indicate that I've hit upon the solution. Or at least one solution.
