Buzzer at 120mph

From 120mph upwards my wing mirror (06 sti) makes a mad buzzing noise with the wind. My 03 sti used to do the same. Is this common?

It doesn't bother me, it just reminds me of an evacuation siren!!!

Makes the same noise, common problem

FirebirdUK 31 December 2006 03:54 PM

My STi used to do this too... As I discovered whlie overtaking a Range Rover on the motorway in France... Was late for the ferry, and was going about 130 at the time. Thought at first they were beeping their horn at me, but had the noise when I hit the same sort of speeds later on with no other cars around...

Havn't had a chance to see if my Forester makes the same noise yet! :)

Marko2101 31 December 2006 03:56 PM

Think ill hang on to it for now, looks like its a gud n'!!
Got 1 bald flat tyre (with a rusty nail in it) and a streering wheel (with blown air bag) for sale if your interested though!!!

martx 31 December 2006 03:57 PM

If you're not careful you'll go from very fast in a scoob,to very fast into jail, be careful, they'll throw the book at you if you get caught at that speed

Yea i know, dont usually do daft stuff like that but as i said It was a Civic type R with its own Mr Patel at the wheel and he flashed me to move!
I drive what looks to be a standard 2002 wrx but with 333Bhp so he got a big shock! he went to undertake me, so when he got along side i floored it and then slowed down. did this a couple of times to winde him up!! then give it the berries and left him for dead.

bugeyeandy 31 December 2006 04:15 PM

You sound like a comlete plank if that's how you drive.

Mine actually does this, but it sounds like its coming from the back of the car? Or the passenger side wing mirror anyways, not the driver.

Like i said if you read NOT how i usually drive.
Just a bit of fun on a clear bit of road.
Dont appreciate people who dont even know me commenting like that.
If you do feel like you are a 'hardman' who likes to get cocky and throw his weight around im more than happy to meet up and discuss this further. Other wise please dont try to trade insults in a chat room. We can all try and be 10 men behind a keyboard. :hjtwofing

How was he able to try and undertake you? If there was room in the left hand lane why weren't you in it? Do you tend to stick to using the middle lane on motorways too?

If someone wants to come passed you why no let them? The more you've got the less you need to show...

bugeyeandy 31 December 2006 04:27 PM

Not a keyboard warrier, just stating that you sound like the kind of driver i'd rather keep clear of.
What's the point of slowing down then speeding up (to 150mph) just to stop "Mr Patel" from overtaking you?? The roads are dangerous enough without people driving like that.

That speaks volumes.

Yea i know, was silly. not saying it was good! just a bit of fun.
i had a 172clio before and the type r was kind of the enemy! so to blow one away(for a change) was quite funny.

ScoobyDoo69 31 December 2006 04:31 PM

you can make it go away by getting the wind guards over the windows :) subaru part btw.

MrRA 31 December 2006 04:52 PM

Could this be a fault with the windscreen seal?

mr incredible 31 December 2006 04:58 PM

My STI8 makes this noise but i think the area that is making the sound is lower down(sill height)or even under the car!!???

Mark.

mart360 31 December 2006 05:31 PM

depends on what market the mirror is homologated for?

Rough guess, UK market, mirror will be certified for legal road speeds, therfore up to 70 mph will be silent, over and above that well your in a grey area, however *Cough* testing to speeds in excess of that will happen, either on a track, or on a private stretch of road *cough*

all our cars are tested to 160kmh :) before final checks take place
