However advances in turbo technology are happening all the time. I'd like to think that with this new set up I'll be at full boost at about 4k - 4.5k revs and with an 8k rev limit then that's loads of room for maximum BOOOOST!!! Especially with the close ratio gearbox

If I'm doing less than 4k revs at any point on track then I must have fluffed a gearchange

Clutch?
Having been subject to a few pax laps on those ledas before the rebuild, I'm amazed the box is still in one piece!

I hope so
I just need to sort out the gearbox issue (there are a few PPG sets available at the mo) and get all this stuff fitted.
Can't wait. Booked into Len's to have the turbo and ancilliaries fitted on 26th Jan - plus a remap on the same day

Hi Terry,
As you have already stated on my project thread your car is a very similar spec to mine. I have been thinking of this turbo for quite some time but no one that I am aware of yet has put one on a two litre. It would be interesting to know what you think to it as I am really torn between this turbo and a rotated GT30R setup.
I shall be watching this thread very closely especially on the 26th.
Good luck mate and let me know how it goes.

Hi Daz
I'm sure I'll be posting on 26th after fitting and remap - hopefully with good results
If I don't post then something probably went wrong and I'll be pi$$ed off
i've mullered 2 of them now
running approx 350/350
does get lots of use on the drag strip though
i've just bought the exedy twin plate from Mark , being fitted this week, collecting car sunday . . . drove me mates 550 bhp celica with the twin plate fitted and it felt weird BUT good lol does that make sense.
have you not considered the T version of the MD321 ?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! - PPG whine, can't beat it!
Looking forward to "hearing it" once my box is built.
Hopefully, it'll annoy the wife so much she'll never wanbt back in the Scoob (here's hoping!)

Are you fitting the 321T to a built 2 litre or a larger capacity engine? Mine is 2 litre, so will be interested to see how the T feels on this spec. I don't mind trading a bit of lag for better top end as the short ratio gearing and 4.44 diffs means it's always high up in the rev range anyhow
I just want a straight cut 5th to go with the 1-4 and watch this space if you're interested as they may be available in the future
, and has an excellent spec. I am aiming for a similar build for my STI 3 RA, its currently at Zen getting a stregthened rebuild.I was also interested in the PPG but was hesitant as I wanted to keep the same ratios as I currently have. Is your set the same ratios as your current box?
If not do you anticipate a big difference in acceleration if the ratios are longer?

From what I've learned the ratios in my car at the mo equate to the following speeds per 1000rpm:
5.23/7.81/10.43/14.00/19.53
whereas the PPG set will have the following
4.67/8.28/11.80/16.59/21.85 - although the 5th does depend on if you keep your original or not.
So you can see the longer ratios with the PPG kit in gears 2,3&4. For me the main benefit will be 4th - as it is evenly spaced between 3rd and 5th. This will make better progress on the track as in my current box I am running out of revs at much past 100mph in 4th - so spend a lot of track time in 5th. With the new setup I should see a lot more time in 4th (and ultimately therefore less gearchanges per lap

)I think the longer ratios will not really hinder acceleration as the power and torque will be at such a level as to keep me on the boil constantly. I shouldn't be dropping below 4krpm on track and therefore always on boost

Not as big as a difference as i first thought. The 4th gear would be a definite advantage....Would also be a great benefit on the strip- Right now I have to change into 5th right near the end
Your setup is coming together very nicely and the balance of mods is perfect IMO, hopefully you get some great results
If you ever decide to change away from the PPG and it becomes available, it would make a great addition to my spec......
Even if its just for the Sound
How difficult is it to convert a Straight cut to a dog engagement or is that a completely different gearset?
Thing is, to be of benefit on the strip you need quite a long first gear so you can put the power down and have time to think about your change into second, rather than find you have to change up before you've reached the Christmas tree
I used to 'cheat' a bit back in the days of my bolt on UK car, even though first wasn't too bad I found I was pretty much having to cahnge gear as soon as the car was moving...so I 'removed' the rev limiter and changed up as fast as possible ignoring waht was on the clock
