My status is nothing here.. my actions, in this location, may be deemed worthy and the mark I leave may be slightly significant

But, in poverty and deprivation, would my limited ability to *leave a mark* be possible? Or would I be so downtrodden and without hope that I wasted the space I was given on this earth

(you've made me all miserable now )

What you're saying is correct, of course. You're a product of your own environment. It is perfectly reasonable to assume that should, say, somebody with the exact chemical makeup of Newton be born in a village 100 miles from Juba, then he would not attain comparable greatness. It's a game of chance.

So, what you're saying is , there could be a whole load of Einsteins or Newtons wasting away in the depths of some smelly swamp

Yep. Or Birmingham or New York or Tel Aviv. It's not just about the talent, it's about circumstances conspiring to allow the talent to flourish.

Does a prospective genius walk into a pub and meet an inspiring mentor or does he sit alone and drink his nights away?

Sliding doors.

The Earth then had to be placed at a perfect distance from the Sun in order for life to be given a chance to exist. Miraculously, evolution took a course which gave birth to the human race.

So, the chances of us being here thus far are pretty slim. It then gets really interesting. Of the billions of humans that have populated the Earth over thousands of years, it just so happens that your parents met and that one of the millions of spermatozoa per millilitre produced by your Father penetrated one of the thousands of ovum harboured by your Mother.

You then survived long enough and learnt enough to read what I'm able to type.

Considering the millions of galaxies in the universe and the billions of stars like our own sun within each of them, its improbable that our solar system is unique in that its the only one supporting life. I would say there are thousands if not millions of solar systems like our own in the universe. We've just not discovered them yet. It would be like trying to find one particular grain of sand on earth. However, what really blows my mind is that the atoms and particles that make us what we are are possibly as old as the universe itself!

I think that insignificant is not a strong enough description when you try to encompass the vastness of it all.

Valid and thought provoking notion. I suppose it is easy to consider status and worth with the luxury and comparatively easy life we have here in comparison to poverty stricken folk elsewhere. Those people don't have the 'luxury' of contemplating such notions ( things are getting paradoxical!). However would your contribution to society be less worthy if you were living in deprivation? Would your right to 'exist' be any less simply because you were failing to fulfill your potential due to circumstances beyond your control. Anyway I'm going back in to my swamp now things are becoming a little deep..
