A Friend of mine got caught doing 118 and escaped a ban.

He runs a company that employs 16 people and was driving to catch a ferry to Dublin to do a job.He went to court with letters from his accountant showing the company wasn't doing well. The job in Dublin was vital to the company's survival and there was a real possibility of the company going under if he was banned meaning 15 people would be on the dole ........... you get the picture.

Heavy fine, but no ban.

I am not aware the mobile cameras actually flash as they are front facing, are you sure (maybe as someone else stated it may have a been a car on the otherside of the road warning drivers).

I standed to be corrected, mate ?

Mobile cameras are popular on the A322 near bagshot, but I've never seen a flash as the hords of BMW repmobiles zoom past me a 70mph+ in a
50 zone and pass the nice civil servant in the Van making the latest Tax Blockbuster with his camera.

I pass though the A322 at 50, as 3 work mates were done on this road.

wasnt aware that mobile cameras flashed?? IIRC "flashing" cameras can only take the pictures from the rear for safety

except Truvelo, which use a magenta filter on the flash to reduce the impact of the flash in your face. From comments made by those that have been caught by Truvelo it has little effect.

If you genuinely need your car for work you can ask them nicely not to ban you. I know of a mechanic that had 12 points but no ban, but its up to the magistrates on the day.

In my area at least they are offering the driver improvement course, or the speed awareness course as an alternative to the points, but you cant ask for this they consider the case and offer it or not. Ive been told that if your on 9 points and the speeding offence wasnt too bad, they will offer the course as an alternative, but i think it needs to be less than 35mph??? The idea behind this being that points dont teach you anything but the course might, and generally improve safety on the roads

I beleive as well that the old rule of thumb of speed limit plus 10% before you are busted doesnt apply any more, its now just the speed limit.

2 SP30's already and this is your third...maybe you need to be banned if you can't control yoour speed. Not trolling just an opinion; there IS no excuse for speeding in a 30 zone.

What a pile of self-righteous w@nk. Human beings are not machines, but make errors of judgement. Even the most careful and considerate driver can accidentally stray over the limit on occasion. Show me ANY driver who says they've never exceeded a 30mph speed limit even by 1mph, and I'll show you a liar.

Default road safety camera flashing you in the face( dont think so)

You can not have a road safety camera flash you in the face.......(because its ******* unsafe)

a camera will only flash from behind the vehicle.....(they dont try and blind you on purpose)

mobile vans record you on video. they dont take pictures because the opperator would never be quick enough to catch you speeding.(u slam the brakes on when you see them)

As for ban at 12 points (its not always the case. i no people with 13) like most have said it depends on your circumstances.

The witness statement advice on the Pepipoo site has no basis in law until Feb 2007 and then only if the ECHR rules in favour of the right to silence, which is pretty unlikely.
