Hmmmm - now this is complicated.

Well, Fvcking Great obviously means "fvcking great" but it also means "not fvcking great". It's all about the curious habit of having something genuinely great and then spending half your life trying to become popular as a result of it. A curious habit that seems to have been accelerated out of all proportions via the complex and anonymous medium of the internet. Just visit any number of car forums for examples of this.

Let's say it's been a good year - you buy a £50K plus car and show it to your friends and family and they ignore you. What's all that about? Don't they know who you are? Surely there must be a solution? A group of folk who will truly appreciate how wonderful you are as a result of being able to buy a Ferrari. You really won't need to look far - simply visit an internet forum and drop on a few details of your shiny new car coupled with a number of subtle but wholly untrue tales of bravado on the road. In short you have managed to say "Look at me - I'm fvcking great" and strangely you become a hero. There are always enough teenagers who are taking a brief break from their ferocious w4nking schedule and socially inept IT virgins hanging around these who will be easily impressed with these antics and allow you to toddle off to bed with the illusion that you're "****ing great".

Except sadly you're not and it may not take very long to find this out. The huge growth of the UK track day industry means that you're bound to be tempted sooner or later to give it a go in your lovely new steed. Your new "friends" have stroked your ego enough to make you think that you might actually be quite good. But this will be a brief illusion and one that will be cruelly and humiliatingly shattered when you first venture out possibly in a race suit with your name embroidered on the belt or at the very least a set of driving boots.

Someone with the seeds of genuine "fvcking greatness" will run rings around you in a ropey old Opel Ascona or E30 325i and you'll have to delve deep into our book of racing driver excuses to mask this humiliation to the forum later that night when you get home. It's probably worth a few distracting posts about how much you earn to take the heat off the humiliation at the same time.

That's not to say that Ferraris and Porsches aren't fvcking great cars. Generally they are just that. But use them to develop your popularity at your peril."

On SN, there's no problem.

However, in <insert social situation here> you are asked what car you drive and you say something like "subaur impreza wrx sti type ra" or whatever, you WILL sound like a sad ****. Just say subarus impreza (add turbo if you really feel the need). If they are interested and ask then tell them what model. I have an Audi A6 and that's what I say when I am asked what I drive (and westfield for the other car). I do not answer with the sad twattish thing and say "Audi A6 2.4 v6 SE quattro auto" despite that being the "correct name"

???? You've missed the point, it what people refer to them as, not what they are actually called. When asked what I drive, I say westfield, as do most owners. Just about NO-ONE in the westie world, unless pressed, says they own a SEiW, SE etc.

 

If this thread was started by " just wondered " and the web site "brainchild" (apologies if you are masquerading as Tim Berners-Lee) then I can only hope you attempt to keep todays thoughts to yourself.

 

I just say a Skoda, cus that's where i do most of my miles. Then if someone is genuinely interested in cars, then i may progress to "well my weekend/wifey's car is a subaru".

I don't say scooby/sti blah blah. No one really cares...

 

The point was what do you refer to them as when answering a thread.

Therefore wrx sti ppp etc etc is fine as it gives all the info needed.

If someone outside of here asks me then the answer is an impreza. That is all people want to know as they dont know/care about the rest. Unless of course they ask you what type of impreza, usually followed by how much power, how fast...

Does that not say it all, Westie!!!!

Proves the point that most owners have other names for thier cars, not always what the manufacture indended!

 

If a BMW driver owned an M3 or M5 would they say BM??

BTW I drive a Silver Nissan Micra 1.0 16v Inspiration with scratches and dents!

 

You are missing my point ....... The owner of a BM would say ''I own an M5'' he wouldnt say ''I own and M5 with optional leather and sport suspension pack''

A Subaru owner on here doesn't however say ''I own an STi'' he says '' I own an STi PPP Type UK'' or something similar.

Is the MR320 an upgrade or is it an off the shelf car?
