Mike123 - yeah I ditched the 14's in favour of the 15's. I prefer the look of the 15's TBH, and it 'feels' like it handles better. Could all be in the head though.

200-300, in a vts, very scary would be uncontrollable unless in a stright line!
i have seen 300+ pugs and vts etc as track cars, but they dont use them as their day to day drive. at the power i had it broke the gear box!

[quote=sparky300]It was a 1998 vts, the power was yes at the wheel not the fly, so at the fly then yes around 120bhp, but I always take that of wheel not the fly.
I got to that bhp after had a full decat, full system installed, chipped and had a remap as it messed up my engine really bad, ported and polished, lightened fly wheel, new fuel regulator and bits more… ]
so what exactly messed up your engine???? cos you fitted some mods the engine didint run well after that????
what mods do you feel are worth doing in terms of performance gains and what mods did you think were a waste of money after you had them done?
just interested

Sorry Sparky300, I meant 150-160bhp@flywheel is the norm for the mods mentioned. There's absolutely ****loads of vts/106 gti's knocking about now with 150-160bhp mine included which made 160bhp@fly/136bhp@wheels.
delcbr - I suppose it depends on what you want to spend on it and what you want to use it for really. I personally think they are great as standard, but if you felt the need for mods, the first thing i'd do is probably get myself down the local scrappies and get hold of a 266mm brake setup off something like a berlingo, 306, xsara etc, or if I was lucky and found a 306 gti-6 or xsara vts in there, i'd have the 285mm setup they run. Both of these setups pretty much bolt straight on in replace of the std vts brakes.
An enclosed filter and decent aftermarket exhaust/decat/manifold would probably be my next choice as these engines seem to respond pretty well to these engines. The list could go on, but as I say, it's what your willing to spend and how far you want to go really.

The only mod I thought was a waste of time had to be when it was lowered around -50mm (not my doing as I bought it like this) as it handled like **** and was just crap to drive. It had hardly any suspension travel, was awful.

I think it's had about 4 owners between the space of PC mag and me owning it. I didn't actually realise it was an ex press car until someone off the saxo sports club had saw a pic of it and asked me if I knew it was. I bought it Aug 2002 with 64k miles. Current mileage is 108k.
It's now -30mm lower than std height running bilstein sport dampers and H&R 150lb prog. wound springs.

The main thing i've noticed over std setup is that there seems to be less body roll now so feel alot more confident in long sweeping corners. Also, the turn in feels sharper, but that could be down to the upper and lower braces I fitted at the same time as the suspension. The only minus point over std setup is that the ride is a bit harsh, so not as comfy. It feels pretty well balanced on track though, but i'd like to go for a more hardcore setup at some point, as it's not my everyday car now, so will be pretty much track orientated.
