What is this green spot by my post count?
Brendan, go to your user CP and you should see a "Latest Reputation Received" box, which shows who has given you reputation, was it good (green) bad (red) and what post they gave you reputation on, and optionally a comment. The grey blobs indicate the user's action didn't effect your reputation.
Thank you Markus, I can now see that. But the other thing is, why doesn't that number of points then appear (for me or anyone else) on the hover-over on normal messages? As I said, it just says the same for everyone ("about average 10+") - even though they have apparently received various ratings and so they should differ.

So does that mean instead of displaying 22, 11, 13, 9, 6, 3 it will just say Good, Average, Unknown for ranges of points?

It's just another thing for the sado's who's lives revolve around SN to get excited about.
Look at the people who already have great reputations... is this really for adding value to the site in terms of it's real purpose or because their group of similar minded posters have all given points to themselves?
It's a joke of system.
I made a comment about one person on a thread discussing the ratings system - so actually on topic - and recieved a string of negative reputation points.
You'll just end with a group of people who can't be critised under any circumstances, unless you want your rep to plument, on the basis that their SN maffia type group will all pounce on you.
