What happened to your response stating 'if I could be grown up'? Was it deemed offensive?

Sorry to sidetrack , but I found a wallet in a pub in Banbury recently when i sat down at the table. I moved it it in a prominent place on the table and half an hour later the chap came back to get it. To say he was relieved was an undewrtatement & he then bought me [and my mate] a bottle of wine and shared a quick glass with us. Dreadfully old fashioned thing to do by now probably, but I'd hope someone would do the same for me.

If you find something that does not belong to you, and fail to hand it in. You can be arrested and charged with "Theft by finding".......When a copper mate told me I thought he was Bulls**ting so looked it up......Its true!

Exclamation

Say there was £100 in it i'd use £50 to put petrol in my car then mail the rest plus wallet to the owner. I think thats fair.
Recently i found an unopened parcel in the street, opened it and emailed the person who it was sent to. She was very polite and asked me to keep it for her. I left it in the greenhouse and she collected it when i was at work. Not even a thanks email. Very nice before she got the item. Nothing after.

Found a wallet recenty down the road from where I live. It was in the gutter. Looked inside and found the guy's licence. Address was nearby. Took it round and his wife was so thankful and offered me a bottle of wine. I turned it down as I was just doing the decent thing.
Turned out it had been left on the roof of his car and as he drove away, off it came.

I often think about the rewards offered on Crimewatch for information on scumbags. In most cases I'd give the reward money to the family who suffered the crime.

Feel-good factor!

Hand it in of course, as I would hope someone would do the same for me in that position.

If you saw a person drop they're wallet without noticing, and then saw a somebody pick the wallet up and proceed to put it in they're pocket, what would you do? Go 50/50 with them???

I have and I handed it in. I also picked up a purse, which had very little money in it. I also handed that in. The Bill phoned later to tell me it belonged to an old lady and that was all the money she had.
makes you feel kind of good....

if no one was around, I'd take the cash* and hand in the wallet/cards. it's a pain having to stop cards, etc and the idea of ID theft scares me.

*penance for being careless and losing the thing in the first place

i'd have a think about the scene at the time.

you walk into a toilet and there's a wallet there on the side, it's odds on the owner will be back. action: hand it in at the bar/where ever you are.

you're walking your dog. action: nick the cash, hand in the wallet in the police station.

I'd rather not get fingered, so i would think about it. i do work in finance after all

I once found a wallet that had all the cards etc but no cash at all in.

Made me nervous about tracking down the owner incase he thought I'd nicked his cash.

Turned out we'd been in the same Casino and he's lost all his money prior to dropping his wallet in a drunken state .

Happened to me in Moscow! Short long story

Guy drops wad of cash and despite running after him and actually tapping him on the back he completely ignores me and runs off. Bizzare!!

Ukranian gentleman who saw all this then offers me "50/50 deal"; as guy is long gone I take up this kind offer. When about to share cash guy who legged it turns up - ANGRY! Show him I dont have his cash due to a HUGELY GUILTY CONSCIENCE [was thinking which new motorbike to get by then...], even showed him contents of my wallet and make a hasty exit.

Discover several hours later that he had lifted $300 from my wallet- BRILLIANT!!!

Mentioned it to the Moscow team [Russians] and they all sheepishly admitted that it had happened to them too, all except the born again Christian [who clearly did not like motorbikes] and GRABBED the guy who lost the money, insisting he take it back!

The moral of the story is obvious comrades!

maybe it's easier for me to say that as I don't tend to carry cash or cards on a day to day basis and beyond that I don't own a wallet; i used to use a money clip, but that was about it.
