Just got back from picking my XBOX up :-)
Matt,
I'll ask but I doubt it, he's coming back over for Crimble and bringing it with him so customs might be a problem if he brings more than one (especially as it looks f**king huge!).
If there's a chance though I'll let you know.
All the best,
Dean

Ok guys after spending around five hours darting around Croydon and Bromley I finally picked up the Xbox, I managed to get all the top titles apart from Halo which was the one I really wanted to see. Believe Shaun when he says DOA3 is awsome, it really is. The woodland scene and the sunset beach are the best. But the snow level is pretty cool. When you fight or fall over all the snow gets messed up just like in real life. Oh by the way because you can have four human players at the same time, you've got to try the tag team option playing as four woman, very nice.
Project Gotham graphically is a bit of a dissapointmant. I think it was originally meant for the Dreamcast but when that flopped they moved it onto Xbox. The scenery is nice but a little flat which is why I think they just ported the models from the Dreamcast. The reflections on the cars are very nice, although I feel the cars didn't seem to blend with the world very well. Gameplay wise I think it beats GT3 hands down, although it is more of an arcade style which I prefer.
Odd World looks nice (although the textures could have been more detailed) and keeps up the style of the orginals but in 3D form. It's one that you have to spend a lot of time on to get into it.
The other two games we've got are some off road truck one and Nascar, both are very **** and worth avoiding at all costs.
All I can say is pretty much what I've been saying for the last few months. The Xbox pisses all over the PS2 and is as far removed from a PC as you can get. If you haven't got a PS2 yet then wait till the Xbox comes out and get that instead. If you've got a PS2 then sell it and get an Xbox. Or if you've got the money keep it and get an XBox. But what ever you do, get an Xbox
.
Oh if you want to see what a more in depth review check out Edge this month. They haven't got a review of DOA3 (next month apparently) But they do have Halo and a few others, and lets just say they were very happy.

I like the reasons you dont like the PS2.......You sound like you work for Microsoft!!!!!...........i cant really accept "because its ****" ..........not really much of an argument that...........

People here should remember 3dfx the then defacto standard for 3d cards, along came Nvidia, with TNT series. Lets call Sony PS, PS2 the 3dfx and the X-Box the console Nvidia range.
Do u see where I'm going with this. Sony PS2 has had its time, the X-BOX is comming. People talk about naff games, there is a huge amount of rubbish for the PS1 and having spoken to several PS2 owners they're not that impressed with the games available for the PS2. Both are junking the PS2 infavor of the X-BOX.
P.
Shaolin, I apologise for my brief description of my reason for the PS2 not being very good, but to be honest I didn't want to go over the same thing again. If you want to know why then have a look at the post last week. Can't remeber the title but it had Xbox in it, I've listed plenty of reasons there. And no I don't work for Microsoft, I'm just a poor games developer that has had to suffer a year of making games on the PS Poo, as we like to call it.
Hmmmm, I've read a few PS2/Gamecube vs XBox threads and held off jumping on either camp, despite thinking a lot of people are talking loblocks on the subject. Before I start, as previously stated, my Xbox is on order, I've got a PS2 and a PC and will be getting a Gamecube too. I consider myself very lucky to be able to afford this stuff, so pity the poor sods reading some of this drivel ("I wish the PS2 would just die" etc.) who don't have the option of "just popping along to the shops" to blow a couple of weeks wages on the next big thing.
Whatever anyone thinks of the PS/2 it's 18 months older than the XBox. The fact that XBox took so long to come out is a joke considering it's generic processor and NVidia involvement - I think MS were delaying whilst they could get software developers to jump aboard. If the XBox succeeds, it won't be because it's incredibly powerful (it isn't anymore) but because they've finally brought quality game support to a PC platform. And XBox IS basically a PC platform, Intel processor, NVidia graphics, DirectX compatibility and Windows Based O/S - this doesn't stop it being a good machine but it doesn't make PS2/Gamecube crap either.
Gamecube looks like being cheap from the get-go and PS2 is at the discount stage already. Couple that with people's loyalty to Sony and Nintendo (something you can't widely attribute to Microsoft) and it's hard to understand how people can write them both off.
There is one more consideration to how well a console does, and that's piracy (oooh, controversial
). IMO other consoles would have done better against PS1 had piracy not been so rife and had pirate software had made it to the Dreamcast earlier Sega probably wouldn't have had to kill it. Good or bad, PS2 seems to already following PS1 in that respect, I don't know about XBox but Gamecube's non-standard media probably means piracy will be difficult (arguably why N64 didn't do that well either).
Basically I hope all three formats prosper. The thought of living with just just Microsoft is too dreary (and scary!) to contemplate.
Phew, where'd all that come from? Did any of it even make sense?

Yep agree with your last statement there. I think Xbox has just given Sony a kick up the **** and basically told them that they can't just release a slightly better version of the old PS1. I think what Microsoft have done is cause Sony to reconsider when to bring out the PS3. If it wasn't for Microsoft we'd probably have to wait another 5 years before a new console was released. Now I think it will be more like 3 years
@ Dean
Very interesting point regarding games-piracy, on which i totally agree. I am still very sad that the Dreamcast didn't live that long, since I think it gave us lots of creative games whilst the PS had only a handful of good ones and tons of average stuff! I also think that a lot of DC-Owners will rather get the xbox than the PS2. Or they will buy a Camecube. I will defenately take the xbox route because there will be more games coming out which interest me (starts with Soul Cali 2 and ends (hopefully not) with Panzer Dragoon(!!!) or Shenmue 2. Anyway, maybe we can live with 3 consoles at the same time? It used to work with the Super Famicom + Genesis (sniff!). I am very excited with the current game-industry situation!! Maybe developers are now forced to bring more quality games out?!?
Cheers + happy gaming

I've got a PS2.
I've got a PC with broadband.
There is nothing I want to play that I can't.
Most of this discussion is meaningless tosh to the man in the street.
By the time the Xbox is released here next March, most kids will have had a PS2 for Christmas 2001.
Marketing you see. Kids buy consoles, not parents, they just pay for them.

hmmm, marketing ploy. I'll get me coat...

Shaun, how far are you through Halo ?
Playing co-operatively we're 60% through the game (The Library)
I prefer the outside settings more than the Alien-esque space-station scenes.
I keep going back to the landing (2nd Chapter) where you have to hide so the enemy think there are no survivors. Seeing those spaceships fly over, land, drop off people .. the water fall.. etc. it's SO immersive.
The games getting hard now with those nasty spider bugs, and the exploding head guys.
SPOILER: Entering NOSLIW as your name in Gotham Project will unlock all cars
Re: X-box, PS2, PC debate.. it's one that will run and run. Most of it based around either ignorance or jealousy. Anywho, if you like a game that requires a machine, buy it. Otherwise don't. Simple. Who cares which machine is better, so long as the owners enjoy them.
System reckons I posted this April 12th.. go figure..
