can you get some other repair estimates.... some that are deliberatley expensive - this may assist your insurance company to writing it off. By rights you can choose any repairer you want, not the one the insurance company specify.

i beg to differ - the whole point of the HPi is to show up any work which has been undertaken as part of an insurance claim. Makes no difference if it was their fault or not. This check is supposed to highlight this detail.

I had a car that was in an accident-i must have done a fair few grand of damage to it as well but being an expensive car it wasn't a write off-and hence when car was HPI'd afterwards it comes up clear-only write offs show up as far as accident damage is concerned on HPI reports.

only things that can show up are cat a,b,c or d.
These are total losses of various kinds.
A is basically the car could look better if it is crushed.
B is usually total loss due to fire damage or very very serious smash.
C is beyond economical repair - ie. repairs are more than value of vehicle
D is repairs less than value of vehicle but close enough that it probably doesn't make sense to repair in most cases.
These are the categories of write off. If your car is damaged and fixed due to a payout from an insurance company, then it is not a write off, not a total loss upon which an insurance company has needed to assess its value in order to pay out the replacement cost.
It is merely crash repaired which has no means of recordal on an HPI register.

that's a bonus then. I've always been paranoid that if I had a ding it would give the 'buyer' some extra bargaining power to devalue my vehicle if they discovered by report that it was damaged. I guess its down to a professional inspection or their eagle eye to find out otherwise.
point taken. I'll bare that in mind the next time I purchase one of these checks.

Had an M6 for about two weeks, awesome machine, nothing i've driven comes close to the blistering performance.
Now in a convertible RS 4. Completely different from the saloon but still a nice drive.

For the car to be written off the damage has to be over 60% of the cars value, ie a 30k car would need 18k's worth of damage, otherwise it will just be repaired.
