The brakes on a standard 276 BHP car are poor, and you are putting almost 50% more power on the ground.

You can have a 400bhp car on the road but without the assisting mods then your going to be slower than say a 300bhp car because of that.
The std 4 pots were crap on a 215bhp car let alone a 276bhp car and anyone who says they were good needs to drive a 306 gti-6, why? because the 2pots were better than the subaru 4 pots

I'm more than happy with my 4 pots with 313/300 on tap. If i was to upgrade to 400 i still wouldn't change them. The power to me is for use on short straights and blips here and there - it's not to make my car any quicker in the real world A-B.
I understand why many people want the big stoppers, but i bet there are many out the like me who just want the power rush

General A and B road driving with nigh on 400 will make standard brakes suffer IMO, badly.
Put it simply, every corner you accelerate out of, you have more power, so you accelerate quicker, so come the next corner after a short straight, your going quicker, so you need to brake harder.
Simple as that, if you dont make standard brakes suffer with that power, then it is TOTALLY POINTLESS having the power in the first place.

Maybe Brun just likes that 'shove' you get when giving it a bit stick coming out a roundabout for example, then backs off on the straight rather than charging into the next corner hard on the brakes ? Thats how I tend to drive at this time of year when the corners are covered in leaves and the frost is about to set in.

Andy has hit the nail on the head. Very rarely do i charge round hammering it into corners. As i get older i'm finding that i'm creaping more and more into my comfort zone of ability.
My brakes are not completely standard however, red ceramics and Godspeed disks are on, but with the way i drive, i don't think my overall pace would suffer with an OE setup Can't remember the last time i had brake fade

I had brake fade on my 02 WRx when she was a 2L 350 bhp level 50% of the time when in attack mode . Brakes seemed to get worse the more fade I had (like the pads were going hard), ended up with no feel from them at all. The worst time this happened is when I took her over to the Isle of Man and hit the famous Creg Na "pub" straights, hit 135+ mph and couldn't slow down for the bend - lucky enough nothing was coming the other way! For me, and my non-girl driving (in summer!) doing engine upgrade also includes brakes and suspension as oe shocks give nice body roll with power increases as she starts to feel like a boat. For my safety, I'd not want to run 400 bhp with brakes, suspension, internals, gearbox etc being standard.

As long as you have decent hoses, fluid, pads and disks then the 4 pot calipers are up to the job IMO.
So basically uprate everything and the OE brakes are OK

With just the standard 276BHP P1 and the original small brakes, plus good fluid after a while, I constantly had brake fade during any spirited driving, even managed it on the very first day I had the car with a 4000 rpm rev limit...
Decat and BRD ecutek - 300ish - Upgraded to Alcons, proper fluid, braided hoses, DS3000s - no more brake fade, but get through Alcon rotors pretty quickly.

Brun,
Ill fit some 4 pots to my car and wind the power down to around 450 and I really dont think you would agree with your own comments..
FWIW, the disks on my subaru are a little purple.. the disks on my mondeo were purple and cracked.
Drive like a girl? Never!

Oh, and as long as you remember to fit the nitrous jets.. nitrous wont blow your car up if mapped properly.
AndyF - Andy Forrest Performance, Pavlo - ZenPerformance, RCMS - RCMS / Team ICE all use Nitrous to good effect.

If you use your brakes you are going slower than braving the bends?
My stock discs go blue but havn't faded yet either, but i try not to use them much.
But I drive like a girl as David knows!
JJ is dead right.

I 2nd JJ's comments...totally right
OE size brakes even with uprated discs and pads will be iffy over 350 bhp when in attack mode (although, people have different meanings of attack mode...spirited driving to me means to scare the hell out of your passengers! Its such a laugh )
