Oh and once you have fitted the stage 1, I'd advise you go and get the car checked out/set up to make sure the fueling is spot on or at least safe.

It wasn't the reason I sold it but it's a good replacement I only started looking at these after I sold it. I nearly bought another Lexus but I found this just minutes before I was leaving to view the Lexus an hour and a half later it was mine

I had one the same. Nice colour flint grey and great fun getting the back end out. Used to get mine proper sideways and let off the power and it would just snap back in!

Amazing the difference a wash can make !

Nice little bargain you've picked up.
My 2wd Stage 3 was the best car i've ever owned.

They may be old sierras..but they're great !

Paul,

What ECU is is running, If I remember correctley I have an L6 Stage 1 chip kicking about somewhere. I think the L6 was a late 3-door, early Saphire ECU.
- Those were the days.! - Should have stuck to your S1's and let me play with the cossie's.

Luv E'm and will get another one one day. Got to have greens and chip though. Looking good Paul, although can't help but feel If the budget let you consider a lexarse. I would have probably spent the extra on a minter saph with built engine, turbo, greens, re-trim and lots of other goodies. Could have been brought for 5-6K.

That dash!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Good luck

Paul, I hope you're not going to use it on track and leave oil and bits of pistons and gears everywhere like most fords do

Enjoy mate

It won't leave gears everywhere as it's rear wheel drive!

Pistons all depend on how well it's set up and what condition all the ancilliary components are in.

Nice car mate, will always have a soft spot for cossies had a saph for 6 years (J-reg 4x4) at 287bhp never had any major problems on tell over 100k if there set up right and looked after at a stage 1 tune there pritty safe even the weaker MT75 box out lasted the engine so yours should be fine lol makes me laugh when people say "thay where fast for there day" there was nothing between that and my subaru i now own both are quick cars with a bit of tinkering

Some Sepc-R goodys would be nice for the engine bay

The is back in but I have a feeling that it's coming back out again Since refitting it the headlights don't work properly and neither do the washers so I either have an earth problem or a trapped wire I've been trying everything I can since Tuesday to fix it but I'm getting nowhere

Gary

This one might make it to a track day It'd be rude not to with rear wheel drive

Hi only just seen this thread, nice bargain cossie!

My suggestion would be to totally ignore the comments about gearboxes with the sort of power you intend to run.

With 280ish bhp you'll be fine with everything else. Only things to keep an eye out for are obvious perishable items like hoses and seals. Other than general wear n tear which is to be expected, you should have no problems.

The biggest problem with anyone who owned/owns a cossie is that the next power upgrade is only round the corner and in the quest to get there, things get overlooked and break. Thats the only reason why they're considered unreliable.

Also, dashboards crack along the top which is possibly another reason why it had been removed. The one you have tried to refit may be a replacement.

Sorry to poach this thread but I've got some of my sapphire parts on ebay at the mo if you're interested

I love cars like this, reminds me of when i stumbled across my Cavalier Turbo in the local Free Ads for next to nothing. Cracking find Paul and the difference before/after washing just shows your eye for spotting a decent motor under all the muck.

Don't let the dash wear you down. I've been fixing 'niggles' with the Cavalier for over a year now. Got to agree it's great buying parts from the scrap yard too, i walked out yesterday with all i could carry for £10.

Here's my taxi bought last July for £1450.

Completely standard bar some Eibach springs.

Keep us updated, i'm looking forward to reading more about this.

The dash that I have is in good condition although it's back out again at the moment. What bits do you have on ebay? PM me if you'd prefer

Thanks

The car looked such a state when I got it home, I was embarrassed I love cars like this too which is why I keep changing my cars. I'm not sure my wife is so impressed I just went and got some more bits at dinnertime to hopefully fix this headlight problem then I can get the dash back in That Cav was a bit of a bargain, I like those but I was scared off by the transfer boxes breaking.

Nice one. The problem i have is they're so cheap i don't ever want to sell them. I quite fancy a Rallye Peugout of some description now. Don't let the transfer boxes put you off, mine's on 111,000 now on the original box. I've lowered it, haven't bothered correcting the camber and haven't rotated the tyres since i bought it. I also run the CTOR, what a fine example i set.

The only thing that ever put me off a Sierra Cossie was the outdated dash. Do people swap the dashes for Escort Cossie versions? It would seem like a natural swap even if it was a pain to do??...People do it to Mk1 golfs, so why not Cossies?

I've never seen one with an escort dash. I don't know if it's possible either. I don't let the dash bother me though to be honest.

It's the best way After driving the legacy (which was great) and my daily driver the 2 wheel drive cosworth is still a real drivers car in my opinion. I just need it on the road

For some time after it's launch, Weber sold the original map they developed for the car which gave about 265bhp. Cosworth had to detune the engine at the request of Ford which actually wanted about 180bhp to be available to the public. They had problems doing this and settled on 204 ish.

The headlight problem is solved Something had happened with a switched earth going missing or something so when a mate added a new earth at the switch the lights and washers worked again. I'd spent around 15 hours tracing the fault and he had it diagnosed and fixed in under an hour

Just a few more bits to do and the dash to refit for the 2nd time and then it's MOT time

I'd heard something to that elsewhere too. That is stage 1 roughly so I've been told.
