Yeah the 2006 cars have a new 260 odd bhp engine and its badged as 3.0si instead of 3.0i

I went for the 6sp Manual Should have really gone for the auto with the commute I do but I just couldn't bring myself to do it - and I haven't had a 6sp box since my old 306 GTi-6 years ago! LOL!

Well, first impressions:

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice

I had a really good opportunity to get to know the car today... took me over 6 hours to get from Birmingham to Lancaster - usually a 2 hour journey!!!!

Was really glad of the auto box. Its just sooooo much nicer to be in than the Scoob (although its not really a replacement for it as such, thats going to be a Nissan )

I'll post up some decent pics after the weekend, going up to Scotland to see the folks so I'll get some scenic pics

Simon,

32/33 - You must have had a rough old paper round

SJ,

Come on, fess up - Z4... midlife crisis?

There aren't actually many 4-year old ones for sale. I think people must dump them after the servicing pack has expired.
I have enjoyed reading this thread.

What is the concenus on the 330s with high mileages? I am seriously considering one as my next car rather than a hot hatch that I was initially considering. I am surprised to read the OP preferred the auto box as I always thought performance is sacrificed with with an auto?

Is 25 too young to be driving a 3 series?

I think you could ask that of a 7 Series (or even a 5 I suppose) etc but a 3?!

As for loss of performance, on paper, the auto loses .5 seconds 0-60 - but I couldnt tell any diffence when I drove them. The auto def felt better. Incidentally, the auto has Drive, Sports Drive & "Manual" which is used in Sport mode, you can just tap the gear stick forward to change down or tap it back to change up.

Still loving it, its just so nice and everyone thats been in it so far have been very impressed

Anyway, here are a couple of pics I took up at my old dears, unfortunately the 4 others I took didnt save for some reason

Jeff you cheeky git! Its an early midlife crisis!! get it out of the way now (either that or I'll have 2). BTW I just turned 31

But..........

OMG I love it! Best car I've had in terms of toys and build and ease etc.

Drove back 200 miles from getting it and 200 miles in it today to a customers site. Really happy with my purchase and already had 2 people start talking to me because of it in 2 days! LMAO!!!

Pics to follow when we get some sun again!!

At last - a sensible view on the 330i/d performance versus scoob debate! I too have had both and there is no way a 3litre BM is anywere near as quick as a scoob, other than maybe on a motorway for long periods. Even the diesels favourite 30-70 figures are not that special: 3/530d~7-8s; 330i~6.5s; Sti~5s, WRX~6s. Even the 'super fast' 535d does 30-70 5.5s.
The bloody traction control was a bit over keen on the BM's too and would step in just as things were getting interesting!

Leeroy,

Just stating it as it is mate! I wouldn't have a Scoob or Mitsi over my 330d. Whilst the BM is not as quick, it does everything else on a higher plain.

Matt, what are the 330's like for the dreaded tramlining? We're selling our 320 now as its just too dangerous, nearly sent us head on into a Saab on Monday at 70mph, only a foot or so in it

Its not a very relaxing drive at anything over 30mph.

Simon

(I know you addressed Matt but hey.. whilst yer waiting...)

Now I've had chance to drive it "properly" on some decent A & B roads I reckon there might be something up with yours if its that bad, I've not really found mine to be anywhere near that bad.

Have you tried changing the tyres? I haven't experienced this tramlining on our 320Cd sport, even on the ludicrous 255/35ZR18 tyres. Although as the tyres are getting near the wear limit it's starting to tramline a bit -- currently running the OEM Michelins, but thinking of swapping to Toyo T1-R.

I've got Dunlop SP Sport 9000's on mine and to be honest, they feel much better especially in the wet than the T-1R's I used to use on my last 2 Scoobs.

The tyres are quite new, and as we have to sell it in 3-4 months I don't want to chuck £400 at it on some new boots which may not help.

Think i'll try BMW first as its still under warranty and needs a few other things looking at. I'll take it up on Friday.

Silly q perhaps, but is it the Sport suspension? I've looked at (cover your children's eyes) X3s, and the Sport suspension gets a real slating. It seems that for Normal people, BMW suspension is pretty firm as is.

I thought also bigger wheels were supposed to screw up the handling, as a rule.

Yes, you have to wonder why our 150bhp diesel BMW has bigger wheels and tyres than our 360bhp TVR. But that's how it came from the dealer.
