You need wheels with a 45mm offset, standard wrx wheels will have a 52mm offset and so will foul the caliper.

Hi,

I am trying to sort out the bolts...

I spoke to NAMRICK and they said that the bolts they sell are not strong enough for use on calipers (apparently grade 10.9 or 12.9 is required...)

I halso spoke to my local Subaru dealer and the bolts are £2.50 each for the front (he couldnt find the rears easily though..) are the front ane rears the same bolt?

Cheers

Nope, rears are M10 standard pitch thread
fronts are M12 x 1.5 pitch

they are not £2.50 from Subaru. The standard caliper ones may be, but the Brembo ones are not.

Compomotive do the CXR wheel in 17x7 et45 which clears the gold brembos on the front nicely, this was the only 17x7 wheel i could find anywhere that clears without spacers, they are very light and look good on my hillclimber.

So the rears are M10 1.75 30mm? Sorry if the answer was obvious!

I am at a loss as where to get the bolts now

Has anyone fitted Brembos on the front and OE STI 17 inch wheels of an 02 to 04 STI?
If so do they clear the rear arches & Brembo calipers without spacers?

Cheers

Banny don't you get any judder? I have the Brembos under my '03 wrx wheels with spacers and longer wheel studs. I get bad judder particularly on the motorway. They are properly torqued up etc. I'm going to get 18's as soon as poss.

No M10 x 1.5 the same thread at the M12's for the front
this is the standard pitch thread for an M10, but non standard for an M12.
standard pitch for an M12 is 1.75.

so you need a pair of standard M10 x 1.5 and a pair non standard M12 x 1.5

Wow, i never knew they fitted that easily.....has anyone tried the Performance Friction 2 piece discs that are avialble for the 01> Sti's on their GC8 chassis yet?
The gold brembo's and those PFC discs would make for an amazing "big brake" upgrade for the classic owners.....would be a really cost effective way of not having to spend thousands on an ap/alcon kit!

Hi Scott

I can Answer that one That will be Andy from Ace Motorsport here in South Wales.... One other the other guys Dean and myself have been working with Andy a little on this one as well and he has had brakets made up they are currently away being anodised, also he has some oversized shoes made up for us as well... this has taken longer than antisipated as Andy has had a month out on a training course right in the middle and had to concentrate on the work backlog as soon as he got back in but hopefully it should not be to much longer now. Andy wants to fit both mine and Dean's before he offers the service just to make sure everything is to his standard.

I've got my front's on there are pictures on my last thread in the members gallery and as soon as the rears are on I'll drop a new one up plotting the fitting out, even though I had made a set up Andy will be dropping one of his on for me

Simon

Cool, i wouldn't mind getting my rears up from the WRX 290 to the STi 316 but not sure it's worth the expense, as I would need brackets, shoes, disks and a new set of pads (as I had to cut them down to fit the slightly smaller WRX disk).

I'm looking forward to getting mine on that's for sure... I've still got the braided hoses to go on plus Andy's going to flush the system and re fill with DOT 5.1 so that should really finish them off, it's been a long time in planning but we are nearly there now. No prices as yet on the brakets or the shoes from Ace but as soon as I find out I'll let you know just in case, considering the work needed for yours Scott it may work out to much for the gains maybe ?

Success I got there in the end

Sorry for the poor quality fitted pics it's been like the tropics out there, the car will be getting cleaned for Japfest so I'll take a few more then.

What a difference it's quite something... when you press the peddle the balance is now even and controlled between front and rear and the car feels very controlled... and it STOPS

Massive thanks to Andy and Rhys at Ace for sorting this for me.

I have to say a big thanks to scott and James (Rentonone) for their help and advice along the way with this mod.

£ for £ I honestly think it's the best mod I have done

Simon

Looking good Simon, You managed to get the wheels over the fronts then. They look like P1 style which can give issues.

I'm tempted to increase my 290mm rears to the 316mm now as the EBC disks are a bit noisey and they fluff...flufff as the dimples/grooves go through the bad (off-brake), OK when braking though.

Thanks Scott yes relieved to say the fronts were ok... I am running 18" Rota alloys which will fit over the Brembo's,

Ace sourched enlarged shoes for the rear handbrake as well so it's a good conversion without having to modify the structure of anything it's just parts replacement, together with my new braided hoses and DOT 5.1 the difference in braking now is quite something
I was considering grooving originally but decided to stay away from that and keep them OEM.

I seen on the P1 site before it went t1ts up that Godspeed have an offer on with the rear brackets to fit the subaru 2 pot rear calipers to the classics , they are doing the fitting kit for £59:99 at the moment

They also do the rear brackets and thicker shoes to fit the Brembo rear discs and caliper for £195

He is putting something together at the moment as far as I'm aware... brackets and enlarged shoes, or just brackets on their own I believe.

His number is 01495 244555 Andy may take some getting hold of as he is very busy at the moment, but Rhys who works for him will be able to take a message to pass on.

The Sti discs and calipers will bolt straight onto a MY01 onwards WRX , its the handbrake that will not work as the STi has a 190mm drum and the WRX has a 170mm drum , you will need the thicker shoes that Godspeed came up with , the thicker shoes will fit onto your hubs , the handbrake works as normal then , it is a straight forward bolt on fit

These Speedlines fit over the Brembo conversion, they are ET48 and give loads of clearance.
Oh the are 7.5 x 17
