Stupid Question.

Can you do Kick Boxing if you wear Glasses ??

Have always wanted to do it. Did Taekwondo for a short time in my early teens, but this is a Non-contact sport.
Is Kick Boxing a full contact sport only?

generally you have to start fighting in the ring to get used to being hit someone smacking me in the face doesnt really bother me much as i know i can recover from it but your average joe will just curl up in a ball or see red and loose his temper causing his to fight like an idiot !! plus mentioning street fighting is totally over the top when someone is asking about doing it for fun, thats like comparing a amatuer boxer to a world heavy weight champ there is hard men in every sport but doesnt mean your gonna meet them when your out for a beer

Scoobylou,
Just my opinion for what it's worth, stick to learning from your instructor instead of looking at a video.Video's are good for watching set forms or Kata's but when it comes to sparring.........
As with any Martial art etc it is only as good as the practitioner and what the odd's are that are stacked against you ie an attacker with a gun etc etc.
Regards
Dean

I'm a bit puzzled as to all this slating of the Arts in terms of "streetfighting".

Some of the comments may be true, but they are irrelevant as the thread starter merely asked if it was easy to pick up as he was looking for a "good workout to rid the flab"

PSL,

Mentioning streetfighters could barely be more irrelevant.
How many of us have come up against a streetfighter in our day to day lives to be able to say whether knowledge of a Martial Art would have stood us in better stead against them?

Indepth knowledge of a Martial Art will certainly give you a decent advantage over the majority of neds/chavs who wish to "take you on", however as soon as the numbers increase, your chances of holding your own diminish rapidly.

I've heard of Mark Farnham.

I've also done a couple of self defence courses under Ron Sergiew, and Dave Oliver who was a friggin nutcase - **** me the guy was like 10 stone and he'd break you in two

Ron also taught us some sparring techniques - boy was he fast

Kenny Walton used to do my gradings

Glad to hear you enjoyed it (the class)

Is it only on once a week, or is that all you can manage?

They improved it in my opinion, and they are good.

but lets not get into the politics of ITF - otherwise we will get the WTF lot involved as well.

They broke away 'cos they got s*** on in the early days.
all sorts of stories and you believe the one you want.

You could say they were finacially motivated - possibly.
but at the start a lot risked their homes marriages and everything.

When yoru that deep in the TAGB everything else takes a back seat.
even their other halfs

***edited to say

i have not personally trained under any other style than TAGB ITF so in a way i cannot say if it is better or not but a lot of seniors have and they swear by the syllabus and teh training methods of the TAGB.

you really only have to look how successful they have been whether or not this is down to their proactive marketing is subject to discussion.

I saw flaws - as in any martial art. but as an all round i loved it.

Ron Sergiew and kenny Walton in their day were superb.

My old Instructor Roger lawrence was middle weight world champion in 1998 i think and to this day has and still is one of the best pound for pound fighters i have ever witnessed

The class is only once a week unfortunately.

I'd like to go at least 3 times a week as I really enjoyed it
