I'm intrigued to know how they plan to put these gps/speed limiting devices on cars like my computerless Westfield. How will they implement this on bikes, could be lethal on 2 wheels.

Reducing road deaths is not the incentive for this, making personalised transport unbareable however is. So a few dead bikers is no big deal. Also read some of hedgehog's posts, ISA is designed to work with bikes and cars without an ECU.

It will struggle to get through as a mandatory device. Human rights will stamp invasion of privacy all over it.

The way it will come in is similar to the trial in Ireland. You will receive an insurance discount if your vehicle is fitted with such device.

Its already been tried on motorcycles. Those who have ridden said bike (MCN) claim its lethal, but that doesnt seem to stop the speed reducing fanatics.

What seems to be missed is the planned reduction of almost all roads (save Motorways and Trunk roads) to a 40 mph limit. This will start to come in between any time soon and 2010.
The charging of traffic to use main trunk roads and motorways always had a huge flaw. That people would just use A and B roads and not the roads with a high charge rate, so the 40mph limit is being brought in solely to push people to paying.

They add a box of electronics and a mechanical addition to the brake line so it can apply the brakes for you just as your overtaking a vehicle!

I'd have thought the easier solution would have been to short the points out... no points opening, no spark, no power.

Anyway, all sounds like bad news

John.
