"Saxo Boy" your name says it all. Likewise if you REALLY think a Saxo could beat a Escort Cosworth on the twisties or any road for that matter, then I suggest you give up the drugs
In my experience those that judge me by my login name (which by the way was delibrately chosen to get backs up) are not worth knowing.
If I told Andy F or John Banks my log in and password so they posted from my account for the next year would that change who they are as people?
I'm a car enthusiast. I love all performance cars and I would snap your arm off if you offered me a drive or run in a cossie but I just don't think they stack up! The price of them is frankly silly and they are not an attractive car IMH(subjective)O! Each to their own - I'm just trying to provide some balance to this obsession that the cossie is the best thing since sliced bread.
...and don't even get me started on the Impreza 22b - that is f**king worse!!!

Oh and on certain roads my VTS would corner quicker than both my Scooby and my S2000. It's simple physics - 930kg, tight suspension, wide rubber for its weight and a wheel tucked into each corner. There are countless video examples (see gutman pug) of small hot-hatches made to the same mould keeping up with or beating scoobies, cossies et al on track, etc.

Agreed with what you say but surely you are talking about modded Saxo's or trackday specials we all know that heavily modded Saxo's or the daddy of them the 106 are a formiddable trackday weapon but that is compared to a standard Cossie or Scoob - a modified Scoob would be just as effective.
I've drove a modded saxo although maybo not as track orientated as yours was and i can say on really twisty roads is was great fun but i know my Subaru would have destroyed it even on really twisty roads due to the Subaru being able to put the power down better.
Not saying its a great handling car - 'cos its not but a sorted Subaru flatters f**k wits like me and make them geuinly quick point to point.
just my opinion

i had a pacifica blue colour with leather interior, original light up dials
Oil seprator, Forge dump valve, stage 2 bayjoo Chipped, Phat *** exhaust, lowered, original alloys, alloy header tank, uprated head, all samocd up, absolutley ridicuous sized air filter from some cossie tuning company - it was massive -
never had a problem with any of it
It was a bullett
(ps i had it modified by a geezer who comes in Fast car regularly so it was the dogs

I do get frustraited with people poo-poo'ing the credentials of hot-hatches based on the fact they tend to be cheap and target a younger market. In engineering terms there are many very able small fwd cars out there. Anyway, we digress. The cossie...sh*te

Ok Ok The Escort is ****e the orginal Sierra now thats a different story.
with regards to Saxo's yep they do have a bad image due to the d*cks that spoil them, be it young and not so young, My mates 33 and his i swear is feckin' aweful.
Funny that people look up to the 106 rallye and GTi and yet poo poo the Saxo - still it is a ****e car
After drving one on a smooth really tight road i was inmpressed but after buying a Scoob i know as soon as the conditions turned a bit crap or bumpy the Subaru would blitz it

The difference, mechnically, between the 106 and the saxo is minimal. The difference in image is massive. Go figure.
Is the Sierra not the same deal - highly inflated prices? I've never been a big fan of Fords at all but I'd probably have the Escort over the sierra. But if I was going to go old skool I'd probably rather have an Integralle (sp?).

If I had a Garage, and I had the spare cash. I'd go out and buy a mint Escort Cosworth. I have always been a Fast Ford man, and one of the best days of my life was walking outside of my parents house and finding a Brand new Sierra Saphire Cosworth 4x4 parked on the drive.
Sadly my old man wouldn't buy a Escort Cosworth, as he said (and it's true even today) you just can't park them anywhere without some tw@t wanting to steal it.
As for the Escort Cossie being slow ??? Just goes to show how spolit we are with big power numbers. Yes the Cossie only has 227BHP, but it only weights 1235kg (if I remember right) yet people say that is slow but the Classic Impreza with 212BHP is fast ???
They aren't as good in the twisties??? Again, we are so used to rock hard suspension that if it doesn't corner vertually flat everyone say's it will bounce off the road ? Although it rolls more, it still has lots of grip, and I dare bet a standard Cossie would still be within touching distance of a standard new age STI.
Speaking personaly, and if I did had a garage/spare cash, I'd want a totaly standard MINT Cosworth (for me, small turbo model) and that would be the way it would stay, standard. Still fun, still pretty rapid, and still one of the best looking cars ever to grace our roads.
Why molest a Classic ??
PS.
Had a chance to buy a standard Sierra RS500 (in Black) last year. Up for £19,000 but lack of garage and spare cash meant I couldn't get it.
Now come on Ford. Pull your ******* finger out and build the Focus RS 4x4.

The thing is about the Sierra is when i first saw one 87-88 when i were a young 15 year old i said 'WTF is that' and a buddy pointed out that it was this new supercar that fprd had brought out called the Sierra Cosworth - i've been hooked since

Actually, all the suspension setting are completely different for the 2 cars. Citroen went there way, while Peugeot went theres. Magazines at the time said the Saxo gripped more, but snapped when it's limits wre reached, while the 106 had less grip, but once it's limits were reached it was very manageable. Having owned a 106GTI, and driven several Saxo VTS's, they were spot on.

I've always wanted an Escort Cossie since they first came out. I bought my first Impreza over 8 years ago for 14k (k reg wrx) after looking at some Escorts that were the same age but nearer 20k plus. At the time I couldn't justify to myself the slower performance of the cossie and it's higher price tag.
I've still had opportunities to get a cossie, but I have resisted temptation so far, but I think I will get one one day. They just look so bloody good it's unreal. Anyone who says they look dated etc is mad IMHO. The game moving on? Of course it has! This is a car thats around 15 years old now, place it up against the wrx I bought at the time (even the wrx now!) and looks wise it will blow it away. The performance isn't as strong in the cossie, but that can be cured with some simple *reliable* mods.
I have no hankerings at all to own an Evo, as the thing is just soulless to me.
I totally have no leaning towards a VTS or a s2000 and find it strange that someone admitting to owning these cars has the ***** to have a go at an Escort Cosworth!
I will get myself a nice Imperial blue or a red big turbo Cosworth one day, especially as they are no longer around 20k to buy. The things exude character.

A mate of mines had a few rs`s a series 1/a 3 door coz and finally an escort coz his dream car.........................Had it about 3 months and sold it were running 330bhp uprated everything basically said the sierra felt like a supercar the escort cosworth felt like a mk5 escort with a big engine and the thrill wasnt there with 4wd,they were just too easy to drive, though think if i had the money for an escort coz and wanted a cosworth would go for a mint rs500 or just a normal 3door-they still look the biz in mint nick to me.

I like the old 3 door cossies too, but for me they look too dated and I'd be having one for a day-to-day car, so prob stick with the thoughts on the escos.
