Net gain in aircraft maybe.
Pilots were a rarer commodity. Fields to fly them from even rarer and the radar network was in tatters.
I havent got the books to hand but many sources have said that had hitler kept pounding RAF fields for a week or so longer he could have broken the air cover the RAF provided over the channel and south east england.
The switch to bombing london gave the vital few weeks respite to rebuild the radar chain, fields and decimated squadrons.

Read "The Most Dangerous Enemy" to name one, all books state that had the airwar continued against the RAF for another couple of weeks then we'd all be eating Bochurst.
The Battle of Britain really interests me and I'm not convinced the Big Wing worked. Interesting it was not all about shooting down the enemy but sending the bombers home with dead airman in. This had a much greater psychological impact on airman, groundcrews & commanders.
Its also important to highlight that the Luftwaffe made a number of mistakes, including the continued use of outdated bombers, the Stuka and the use of the Bf110 as a fighter and the switching to bombing the populated areas. They also made a very basic error in under estimating the British force and expected Churchill to capitulate.

Ok not the RAF but the Royal Navy, My grandad died last year to the ravages of cancer, He joined the RN at the age of 19 in 1939 he served until the end of the war on a Mine Sweeper and was chief petty officer, For those that do not know the sweepers went in first to clear the mines so the destroyers could follow and get their targets. He married my Gran in 1945 his childhood sweetheart the bells could not be rung at the church because at the time it still meant the alarm for an invaision, In 2005 six months before his death and their 60th wedding aniversary they renewed their vows in the village church where they were married and the bells were rung. My grandad was such a proud man for what he had done to help this country in the war and wore all his medals with his RN Blazer at the Armastice day parades. As the saying goes LEST WE FORGET. As people that only read about what happened we can all be brave behind a keyboard and say i'd show what for. But when you have talked to the people that where there most of us would be running at 1000MPH the other direction at what they actually witnessed in the acts of war.

Bader. Brave but not a nice bloke.
Dowding and Park of 11 group won the Battle of Britain for us. (obviously many other factors were also key, radar, German Blunders etc)
Leigh Mallory and Bader of 10 group put the boot into them after the Battle and both were pushed to one side. So the two of our finest millitary leaders in WW2 were consigned to out of the way jobs and Bader had a big part to play in it. You wont read that in reach for the sky.
I do know what I am on about. As I have been a Battle of Britain Historian for the the past 20 years.
Wurzel. I know most of the people involved in that program. As I have chased forgotton Hurris and Spits all over France with them on and off.
Sti 8 dosen´t ring a bell. Will find out who it belongs to if I get a chance.
