Do you get turbo lag in all turbo cars when changing gears?!
Im not sure I get it, well only when I pull off in any gear at revs under 3500.
Changing gears just keeps me pinned to the seat, thats right isnt it?!

I change at 7000, just as it comes onto the redline and im just pinned to the seat in every gear even with a full car(but not so much) Its a my95import with center cat and hks filter, think the ecu may have been tinkered with as it pulls like a fit prostitute in a businessmans club going free from 0-112 where I change from 4th to 5th

 

I've got a MY05 STI PPP (great car) with 15K on it and I've just been out for a blast in it, I can't see where you get the lag from going from 3rd to 4th. Mine just drops back in to the power band and keeps pulling like a train and doesn't drop off in any way. All I can think of is that you are changing up too early.

I'm also an ex Evo owner and theres no way a standard FQ 300 would get away from a STI PPP.

I'd say it needs to go on a rolling road - I am starting to think there must be something wrong with it too.

 

Ill book it into Power Engineering for a rolling road

 

If there are any issues with the turbo etc it will be picked up on there. Personally though I'd take it to somewhere that has a Dyno Dynamics roller. Power Engineering have a MAHA which will give you inflated readings - about 5% higher than true. Regardless though, any problems should be highlighted to you.

Had a series 28 Turbo fitted, it kicks in @ 3800 & pulls all the way to 6000 no lag below that.

So the 3rd to 4th thing shouldn't be a problem.

I think the rolling road idea is a good one to sus out what is going on.

Can you do a PPP and convert to Powerstation upgrade later down the line

It is a better car than the UK version, but there are disadvantages associated with Non-UK version ownership. Don't worry - they are all good bases for future modification.

Any closer to decided on whether or not your going to go for the PPP?

i just need to understand if the powerstation one will invalidate the Subaru warranty?

I reckon the powerstation is a more noiser and powerful upgrade than the PPP from what ive been looking at

 

What you need to do is ask your garage. Mine has said that if there are failures apart or could not possible be caused by the modifications, then it's OK.

If you can get that, then that added to the PS warranty and you should be OK.

Like what's been said before now. If you really want to keep your warranty, no questions asked, then the only modification route is PPP.

I've had struts and battery changed under warranty, even though it's modded.

 

The Powerstation one will invalidate your warrenty.

Personally mate - and this all depends on how long your going to keep the car, I'd leave it standard and until the warranty runs out... then it would be a full 3/3.5" system, new turbo, new intercooler and EcuTek remap... this will see you well up around the 350bhp mark.

If your only going to have the car for a couple of years then PPP now would be a better option in terms of resale value.

 

Talk to your garage though as said... the PPP is afterall just a EcuTek remap with a Prodrive exhaust system. They are unlikely to be happy with you using an alternative but equilvant power upgrade because they do want to sell you the PPP after all!

You need to consider power bands and delivery. Its not just 'peak' bhp but the way its delivered accross the rev range. STI's do seem to be lacking in power above 70mph - and i'd expect an FQ300 to win quite comfortably. FQ300 hits 100 in around 12 secs remember.

Never driven an STI PPP but ive heard it makes a lot of difference. So theres your answer, get a PPP.

 

So does a MY05 STI PPP

A MY06 maybe even quicker as they are around 280bhp out of the box rather than 265bhp.

 

I have a MY05 sti, when it had the ppp on it I used to find the torque flattened off above 6k rpm, since I had the tsl333 on it it pullls torque flat out to 7k rpm, sounds like you need a remap,panel filter etc at least, by the sounds the fq300 wasnt standard either by a long shot.

I have had fun with 340s, they are quicker than me just but only a car length or so tbh, not exactly blowing me away.

 

absolutely level with a 330 in 03 STi PPP from 30 to over 100 and he was using Scoobs clean air
