Because most normal people with normal motor neuron function find that using two hands provides steader and more precise control. If you don't find that then a) you are not normal (at best) and b) you are probably a mong

i disagree with you there. two hands on the wheel gives you less control.

may i point out that you have just dropped your ice cream

Would you care to explain why you think this is so?

I wasn't really interested in your screwy reasoning, I just wanted another chance to call you a feckless spacker!

Using your knee is good whilst using one hand to talk on the phone and use the hand other to eat. Very safe and under control.

You lose something like 70% of control of the car in an emergency situation with only One hand on the wheel That means you would hit a child that ran out in front of you rather than safely steer around him/her.
Or if a front wheel bearing goes whilst on the motorway

One hand, unless I am trying to open one of the sandwich wrapper things then its time for the knees to decide where I end up.

A friend of mine with a Range Rover and that funky radar controlled "follow 30 metres behind the car in front" thingy loves it because now he can write SMS's without running into anyone from behind

But doesnt McRae drive most of the time with one hand and I think he still likes to use a manual change (or at least one of the small levers beside the wheel) to rest his other hand on??

I have only started to use two hands since moving to Switzerland where we drive on the "wrong" side of the road (right side). I think maybe its because I am right handed and holding the wheel with the left hand feels wrong after learning to drive in Aus where we drive on the left.
